EBR Successfully Begins the 2011-2012 School Year

 fdos 2011

Students and parents were laden with new, colorful backpacks and plastic bags full of school supplies Wednesday morning, August 10, in school hallways across the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. The first day of the district's 2011-2012 school year went relatively smoothly, and some 43,420 students were decked out in their uniforms and shiny shoes as they attended classes. Registered Student Enrollment increased substantially over this time last year -- by more than 700 students.

On Tuesday, July 26, the State Department of Education announced its School Performance Scores for schools labeled Academically Unacceptable, those included in an Academic Watch List and/or those in Subgroup Failure. Two schools in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) improved enough to be released from state or federal sanctions.  Capitol Middle School was one of only six schools statewide to exit Academically Unacceptable Schools (AUS) status based on an increase in its School Performance Score (SPS). In addition, Winbourne Elementary School is no longer on a list of schools that are Subgroup Component Failure.
