Eleven members of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board who will represent the district over the next four-year term were sworn in to office during an official ceremony held Sunday, January 2.
The five new members are: Craig Freeman (District 6), Barbara Freiberg (District 7), Kenyetta Nelson-Smith (District 3), David Tatman (District 1) and Evelyn Ware-Jackson (District 5). They joined current School Board members Jerry Arbour (District 9), *Connie Bernard (District 8), Jill C. Dyason (District 10), Randy Lamana (District 11), Vereta Lee (District 2) and Tarvald Smith (District 4). *Bernard was sworn in November 4, 2010. |

EBR Leads the State in the Number of New National Board Certified Teachers
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards announced on Wednesday, November 15, 2010, that 20 East Baton Rouge Parish School System teachers successfully completed the rigorous assessment for National Board Certification and now are recognized as among the nation's top educators. This certification is the highest credential in the teaching profession. |
| Students Walk Red Carpet for World Film Premiere
More than 55 students from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and surrounding school districts gained firsthand experience in the growing motion picture industry this summer by learning the process of writing, directing, acting and editing films. The film camp, held at McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School in July 2010, also included teachers.

| Scotlandville Magnet High School Engineering Students Network at Fundraising Breakfast

Since 1990, the Scotlandville Magnet High School's High School for Engineering Professions (HSEP) magnet program has served as a unique way of channeling young minority students into careers in engineering and the technical sciences. The program is overseen by an advisory council made up of local petrochemical companies, engineering firms, businesses, city-parish government offices and universities.

| State Council Recognizes Northeast High School with 2010 College Readiness Award
The Louisiana ACT Council recently recognized Northeast High School with its highest honor, the 2010 College Readiness Award, in recognition of the school having a significant increase in its American College Testing (ACT) Composite Score over the past five years while, at the same time, increasing or maintaining the number of students taking the ACT assessment.

Pamela Dunlap, an assistant principal at Park Forest Elementary School, has been selected as the 2011 Louisiana Association of Principals/National Association of Elementary School Principals Elementary Level Assistant Principal of the Year.
Baton Rouge Foreign Language Academic Immersion Magnet School (FLAIM) Chosen to Receive Funds for KaBoom! Playground in National Competition
The Baton Rouge Foreign Language Academic Immersion Magnet School (FLAIM) was selected to receive funding for a new KaBoom! playground. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at FLAIM, formerly known as South Boulevard Elementary, applied for a playground grant from KaBoom! in September 2010. The announcement was made December 10, 2010.

VIPS Holds Roundtable Discussion on Schools, Budget
Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) hosted its Partners In Education Business Roundtable December 14, 2010, at the Instructional Resource Center with East Baton Rouge Parish School System representatives and business leaders to discuss the upcoming budget cuts in public education and what to expect in the coming year.
