On Tuesday, November 16, Ryan Elementary School Principal Darlene Brister received the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership at the 2010 Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C. Principals nominated for the Terrel Bell Award are school leaders committed to fostering successful teaching and learning at their schools.

Northdale Academy Celebrates 25 Years of History
The East Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council will recognize and honor Northdale Magnet Academy for its 25 years at 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 8.
Northdale Magnet Academy celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special homecoming reception in the school auditorium on Thursday afternoon, November 4. The room was filled with graduates, community partners and friends and supporters celebrating the history of East Baton Rouge Parish School System's dropout prevention/dropout recovery high school. |
| One Hue, Every Side ... in Less Than a Minute at Scotlandville Middle!

Many of the adults, some of whom were engineers themselves, fumbled with Rubik's Cubes in solving challenging math problems Thursday morning, November 11. In the meantime, the fingers flew around the cubes when students decked out in yellow Scotlandville Pre-Engineering Academy (middle school) shirts took over - solving most problems in less than 1 minute. |

This year was a year of many firsts during the East Baton Rouge Parish School District's fourth annual Spelling Bee. More than 100 of the district's best spellers represented the second through the fifth grades in the two-night event November 8 and 9.
Four EBRPSS Office Professionals Earn Advanced Certificates
Four members of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System's (EBRPSS) classified staff have completed the Professional Standards Program from the National Association of Educational Office Professionals (NAEOP) and have earned the distinction of being Certified Educational Office Employees (CEOE).
Tara High School Cadets March Away with Overall JROTC Drill Competition Award on Saturday; Scotlandville HS Student Named LET III Cadet of the Year
Whether it was color guard or the rifle team, Tara High School walked away with the overall Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) area drill competition award last Saturday, November 13. Held at Tara High School, the JROTC Color Guard Competition and Rifle Match featured 11 area high schools' JROTC teams. In addition, a Scotlandville Magnet High School student won the top cadet honor.

Neighbors FCU Receives VIPS Honor for School District Support
On Thursday, October 21, Neighbors Federal Credit Union was honored by Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) with its Star Partner Award during the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board meeting. Kathi Gill, president and CEO of Neighbors Federal Credit Union, and Ann Marie Erie, Community Outreach coordinator, accepted the honor for the credit union's extensive work and dedication to the School System.
