Bi Monthly Update :: September 2, 2010
|
|
As God's children we are being changed to think, speak, and
act more like Him as the years go by.
However, if we get into a conflict with another person, we may respond
by thinking, speaking, and acting in a variety of ungodly ways! None of us is naturally good at working
through conflict with others. In fact,
we can end up hurting those we love the most by the way we engage with them in
conflict.
Few of us had good models growing up of how to engage
effectively and in a Christlike manner in the midst of conflict. Rather, we learned to evade conflict and fake
peace or battle to get our way than to engage in godly ways to truly make
peace. All of us have enough damaged or
broken relationships in our pasts to testify that we just are not naturally
good at handling conflict with others - even those we love. We all
need help in this area!
Beginning Sunday, September 12th and continuing
for nine additional Sundays, we will focus on learning to handle such
interpersonal tensions through a series called "Got Conflict?" We'll be combining Sunday sermons, daily
readings in a book titled The
Peacemaker, and weekly small group gatherings to help us approach and
work through conflict in biblical and Christ-honoring ways.
I hope that you'll invest the focus and time to be at each
Sunday service, do the daily reading, and join in a small group where you'll
learn to use conflict as a means to greater connection and peace with those you
love and live with. Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall
be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9).
My prayer is that you will become the agent of God's peace to a
world that is worn-out with conflict.
-Jim Bzdafka Senior Pastor
