Treasures of Pointe Coupee Organizers Seek Artists for 2012
Organizers of the 2012 Treasures of Pointe Coupee exhibit are beginning their recruitment of artists to participate in this year's event. Following two tremendously successful community art exhibits in June of 2010 and 2011 that drew hundreds to the Julien Poydras Museum and Arts Center to appreciate nearly 150 pieces of art by almost 100 local artists, the steering committee anticipates another outstanding exhibit.
This year's event is slated for June 1 to June 3 and will include both two and three dimensional artwork. The 2012 Treasures of Pointe Coupee will include an exhibit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, June 1, with a reception for artists and the public. The exhibit will continue on Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 3.
A silent auction will be held on Friday evening featuring artworks donated by participating artists, with proceeds going to support future Treasures of Pointe Coupee events. Artists interested in donating work should contact Blanche Jewell, (225) 638-6430.
Similar to last year, Saturday's activities will include art demonstrations held in the annex room of the Poydras Center. Also on Saturday, artists will be allowed to sell additional pieces of art in an arts market. Additional details about these aspects of the exhibit will be released shortly.
Organizers have sent submission forms to artists who have participated in previous shows, but encourage other artists to consider being a part of the 2012 exhibit. Submission forms will be available at the Pointe Coupee Office of Tourism on Hospital Road or by contacting Treasures chairperson Blanche Jewell at 225 638-6430. Artists who participate in the art show can be professional or amateur, local or not, although local artists are not limited as to their subject matter, while those from outside the parish must have a Pointe Coupee inspired theme.

Project Start Date: Unknown Anticipated Completion Date: March 2, 2012 Length of project: 0.790 miles 0.0 Project Overview: Remove existing finger joints and replace with polymer concrete nosing; repair bridge railing, deck concrete repair and epoxy overlay; clean and paint existing bearings and saddles, install new saddles; and related work. Current Work: Work on the bridge joints is nearing completion. A change order is being drafted to compensate the contractor for time lost due to cane season.

Project Start Date: January 31, 2011 Anticipated Completion Date: January 30, 2012 Length of project: 0.538 miles 3.0 Project Overview: Grading, Drainage Structures, Cold Planing Asphaltic Pavement, In-Place Treated Base Course, Superpave Asphaltic Concrete Pavement, and related work Current Work: Curb & gutter work, and permanent striping is underway. A change order is being written to compensate the contractor for days not worked.

Sullivan, Jr. Project Start Date: November 14, 2011 Anticipated Completion Date: November 12, 2012 Length of project: 11.77 miles Project Overview: Grading, drainage structures, cold planning asphaltic concrete, lime treatment, in-place cement stabilized base course, superpave asphaltic concrete overlay, and related work. Current Work: Drainage work is currently underway. Cold planing is expected to begin shortly.

Current Work: Waiting for contractor to have certified Traffic Control Supervisor on site before beginning construction.
