German Romance:
Music of the 19th Century
This final concert of the 2011-2012 season features music from 19th Century Germany. Soprano Valerie Francis performs German lieder from Scubert, Mahler, and Brahms. Ms. Francis is a well-known singer having performed in the US and abroad both on the opera and concert stages. She is currently Professor of Voice at Nicholls State University. The second half of the concert consists of the Mendelssohn Octet for strings. This performance is led by James Alexander violin Professor of Violin at Nicholls State and cellist Dennis Parker Professor of Cello at LSU. Also performing are members of the Nicholls Camerata, the string ensemble composed of students in the string program at Nicholls.
This concert concludes the 7th season of the Pelican Series bringing world-class musicians to our community. Special thanks to James Alexander for organizing this year's series and to PPC Mechanical Seals, to the H.T.
