MerleFest Youth Showcase 2011
Waiting to go on stage at MerleFest

Waiting to go onstage at MerleFest.

It's hard to believe, but this will be our ninth year of AcoustiKids workshops at MerleFest! We've been enjoying watching the showcases grow as the word gets out and festival-goers make a point of coming by to see what the kids have cooked up for us each year. We look forward to seeing this year's participants, alumni, parents, and supporters under the tent at the Little Pickers' Stage. Come join us!

There are three showcases this year, all on the Little Pickers' Stage:
  • Friday, April 29, 2011, 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
  • Saturday, April 30, 2011, 9:30 am - 10:30 am
  • Saturday, April 30, 2011, 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Applicants: Remember, the deadline to apply to participate in this year's showcases is fast approaching! Andy needs the complete applications in-hand by April 15th in order to be able to review them and contact participants before MerleFest.

The application form and more information are on the MerleFest website.

We've put together a playlist of videos participants have posted to YouTube. There are surely some we haven't found, so if you know of one, point us to it and we'll add it to the playlist. Let us know, too, if you put up any new ones. We may just feature the performance in a newsletter!

AcoustiKi♪s showcases are festival-based non-competitive performance opportunities for young musicians, singers, and traditional-style dancers of any skill level, beginner through pro. AcoustiKi♪s showcases are about supporting and encouraging the next generation of acoustic music players and traditional dancers, true, but they're also about the kids providing the audience with a great show. The audiences have proven very loyal, turning out in all kinds of weather to support the kids. And many kids come back year after year, developing a following among the audience, who enjoy watching them grow as individuals and musicians.  Read More
