Andy May & Kenny Kosek
Andy & Kenny go way back. As teenagers in New York City, they both were immersed in the old-time music and bluegrass scene of the 1960's. They learned Appalachian music from older musicians who had come to New York from the hills of North Carolina and Georgia, and traveled together to early music festivals in the Southeast-- Galax, VA, and Union Grove, NC-- by car, bus, or thumb, camping out and playing music for days at a time. Andy & Kenny also performed constantly as teenagers: Carnegie Hall, the NY Folklore Center, and countless radio appearances.

It's always a real treat when Andy & Kenny get together. The synergy makes the music soar. Be sure to catch at least one of their shows during Kenny's visit.

Check out Andy, Kenny, Tony Trischka, & Rudi Weeks playing Honeysuckle Rose at a show several years ago (on YouTube).

Andy & Henry--
The May Brothers
Henry, older than Andy by 6 years, is inspiring in many ways. As a guitarist, he has a unique style based on his years of listening to and studying the great blues masters of the 20th Century. Back in the day, Henry & Andy played together informally all the time, but only occasionally performed together. The photo above is from a concert they did with Rory Block.

Henry has lived in California for many years. As you may remember from earlier newsletters, he has recently recovered from major brain surgery that was necessary to resolve a life-threatening condition. Miracuously, he's on the mend and is playing his guitar as brilliantly as ever. Henry will be joining Andy at Courtney's on August 21st in their first public performance together in over 35 years. Those of you who love acoustic blues and slide guitar will not want to miss this reunion
