NAIDOC Week - Local Aboriginal Artists Exhibition
Celebrating NAIDOC Week. Change: the next step is ours. 3-10 July 2011Exhibiting 29 May - 10 July 2011

This year will see the seventh iteration of an exhibition that showcases the artwork from the local aboriginal community. This diverse group consistently show a wide variety of work drawn from an array of different points of origin. Some prefer the traditional modus operandi working in dot paintings and totemic landscape "map" works through a more traditional style of work right through representations from popular contemporary western iconography such as soaring eagles crouching tigers and the like.

aturday 21 May at 11:00am at Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre

Robert will discuss the process behind his current mixed media exhibition which includes sculpture, film, photography and light. The "Robert Shepherd: exploring the accidental mark, an investigation into drawing" exhibition explores the inner workings of an artistic drawing.

A successful Sydney-based graphic designer and accomplished artist, Robert won the Muswellbrook Open Art Prize for a work on paper in 2000.

Five years ago Robert took himself back to art school to reinvigorate his art practice and 'unlearn how to draw'. To achieve this Robert studied drawing under David Fairbairn at the National Art School in Darlinghurst. Robert's current exhibition is the result of that process.

Robert is a scion of the Muswellbrook Shepherd family.

Robert's exhibition is on display until 22 May 2011
