| Ceramics and Glass - Selected works from the Max Watters Collection | |
This selection of works is the third in an ongoing series of special theme exhibitions aimed at presenting examples of some of the many choices of mediums available to artists for the production of their work. Previously we have looked at Steel and Wood. This time round, we also look at some of the shared aspects of ceramics and glass. A number of 2 D works have been included in the selection to reinforce the theme.
The examples on show explore the play of light on the surface and how an illusion of depth or movement is achieved by the featured artists.
Artists featured include:- George Barker, Dorothy Burns, Setsuko Ogishi, Caroline Southcombe, Ray Taylor, Allan Bell, Brian Doar, Lorraine Jenyns, Fiona Fell, Phyllis Delves, Richard Larter, Alison Hodges and Peter Masters.
Exhibition dates: 23 April - September 2010 |
| Become an Arts Centre Volunteer | | We are looking at ways to raise the profile of the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre as a leading regional gallery.
Ats centres by their very nature need the support of local communities if they are to flourish. We are presently recruiting for our volunteers program, which ensures that there is greater community participation in the running of the Centre.
By becoming a volunteer, you will be making a valuable contribution to the cultural life of the region, and in the process, become part of a dynamic group that will ensure that Muswellbrook has a first class institution for future generations to enjoy.
As a volunteer, you will gain a greater understanding of how an arts institution runs and volunteers can help with administration support, tour guide & meet 'n' greet, the installation of exhibitions and organising and running functions.
If you would like to be part of the team and be a cultural ambassador for the area, please call or drop into the Arts Centre during business hours.

| Paint The Town Red |
Invited artists Special Theme Exhibition 2010 30th July - 5th September 2010
The popular theme of "A Sense of Place" has been a guiding force behind a number of Invited Artists Special Theme exhibitions held at the Arts Centre over many years. The exercise has always been well supported by both artists and the viewing public alike. In order to provide continuity and reinforce the theme it is decided that the word "red", the colour, be taken literally .This brings up a number of familiar connotations. Perhaps the most obvious is "seeing the world through rose coloured glasses". This multi medium exhibition consists of works by Upper Hunter artist which have been selected. from the section of Bridge Street, Muswellbrook between William and Hill Streets inclusive. The resultant images are toned RED. |
| Miniatures XIV |
30th July - 5th September 2010
Exhibitions of miniature painting by local artists have been a regular feature on the Arts Centre exhibition program for over two decades. For hundreds of years, there has been a tradition of miniature painting in many cultures. Because of their small scale, they have been easily transportable and many examples have survived fairly intact due to their inherent 'preciousness'. The word 'miniature' actually comes from the Latin "miniare" which translates as "to colour with red lead", a practice that was used for the capital letters in illuminated manuscripts from Medieval times. The exhibition now includes other artistic disciplines with the addition of embroidery, photography, sculpture and ceramics. The size of works is based on the Australian Society of Miniature Painters rules which states that the actual artwork should not measure more than 10 cm on any side and that the subject should be miniaturised. Artists are given free reign regarding subject matter, choice of medium, technique and style. The universal appeal for miniature painting continues to this day and there is a network of artists, galleries and societies all over the world devoted to this art form. |
