Dear Friend of FLD,

Fortunately for our ongoing construction, we avoided the first storm to hit the Northeast.  Our new warehouse/production building is moving along very quickly.  It is exciting to see and is much needed as we struggle to find space to operate in our existing production area.

Our construction crew isn't the only group hard at work at FLD. Our staff continues to host visitors in the tasting room while bottling current and new products downstairs during their free time.  Speaking of new products, we are excited to release our first batch of McKenzie Pure Pot Still Whiskey on Black Friday, November 25.

We also have a new batch of Riesling Grappa, Pear Brandy (now at 80 proof, in a new etched bottle), and our Grape Liqueur will be out soon. Fans of our Blueberry Liqueur should stop in to stock up soon. We only have a few cases left and will not be making more until next summer.

Besides a number of tastings in your area this month (see sidebar), don't miss out on a Cocktail Pairing Dinner at Taverna Banfi on Cornell's campus.  We will also be participating in 2300 Degrees at the Corning Museum of Glass.  Come out and enjoy live music, food and sip on delicious wine and spirits.

Hope to see you as we start this busy holiday season and please think of FLD for your holiday party needs and gift giving.

Best regards,

Brian McKenzie
President, Finger Lakes Distilling

distributionConstruction update

Finger Lakes Construction began framing our new addition on October 24th and has made great progress since then. Our floor is going to be poured on Monday and things are still on track to move in before the Christmas Holiday. Check out some of the latest progress photos:

pickingBlack Friday- free tastings and festivities at FLD

As an alternative to the commercial shopping craze, or as a finale to your early morning outing, come and enjoy low key shopping as you sample our spirits and enjoy live music.

We will be open with some deals of our own, including free tastings.  We also plan to release our first batch of Pure Pot Still Whiskey that day.

This whiskey is made predominately from local unmalted barley and is aged in our used Bourbon and Rye barrels giving it a smooth, sweet flavor profile (much like an Irish Whiskey).  McKenzie Pure Pot Still Whiskey is bottled at 80 proof.

On the Saturday following Thanksgiving, we will be participating in Small Business Saturday with American Express.  Register your American Express card and use it at any small business and receive a $25 statement credit from American Express.

Jim Murray recently released the 2012 Whiskey Bible.  Mr. Murray is very well respected in the world of whiskey and always honest in his reviews.  We were quite anxious to read the reviews of  FLD whiskies in the most recent edition, and are proud to share them with you.

News about our expansion appeared in a variety of local papers including the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and the Watkins Review & Express.

The history and story of our Maplejack Liqueur was featured in the Edible Voices as well as a tasty cocktail from one of our restaurant partners in NYC.

The NY Farm Bureau's publication, Grass Roots, put us on the front page discussing the passing of the NY Farm Distiller Bill and how it has impacted local businesses like FLD.  We owe a great deal of gratitude to the Farm Bureau for helping to make it happen!

As a proud alumni of Cornell University, Brian was honored to appear in this month's issue of the  Alumni Magazine.

Finally, for those of you that haven't read the Saveur
article which featured FLD, it is now available online.

Late fall is a great time for a cocktail (though, when isn't?). Try these out on a cold fall night or to impress your guests during the holidays.

 Apple Of My Rye

1.5 oz. McKenzie Rye
1.25 oz. Apple Brandy (we used Cornelius Applejack from our friends at Harvest Spirits)
1 Tblsp Apple Butter
Dash Lemon Juice
Dash Angostura Bitters
Lemon peel for garnish

Shake top 5 ingredients over ice. Serve straight up in cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon peel.

 Spiced Pear Cocktail

1.5 oz. FLD Pear Brandy
1 oz. Gold Rum (nothing too heavy here, we used Mt. Gay)
0.5 oz Simple Syrup
Dash of St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram

Shake ingredients over ice and strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with pear slice.

Please send us your ideas for cocktails using our products. With your permission, we may feature your cocktail in a future newsletter. If selected, we'll send you an FLD hat or T-shirt.
