Dear Friend of FLD,

November is no time to rest here at FLD. After a busy fall season, we're moving right into holiday mode. We continue to host lots of visitors and have lined up a number of tastings for the holiday season. Thomas Earl is busy making our regular line-up of products in addition to putting lots of whiskey in barrels.

We're excited to announce a number of new offerings in our tasting room. Bourbon is back on the shelves and we're also just starting to distribute it to our retail partners in NYS. We also have more Gewurztraminer Grappa available from this season's harvest. It continues to be our favorite varietal grappa here at FLD. We also are now offering McKenzie White Dog Barrel Kits which give you the opportunity to age your own rye whiskey.

Please think of FLD for all your holiday gift giving this year. In addition to our delicious spirits, we have a number of great gift suggestions for you, all available in our tasting room.

Hope you can make it out to the distillery this month!

Sincerely,
Brian McKenzie
President, Finger Lakes Distilling

Sure, it takes quality ingredients and a talented master distiller to make great whiskey, but the barrel aging process is equally important. With our new barrel kits, you can test your hand at this fascinating aspect of the whiskey business.

The kits include a 2-liter lightly charred barrel with stand, two 1-liter bottles of McKenzie Rye White Dog, and all the information you'll need to make a great barrel of whiskey.

The whiskey is exactly the same rye that we use for our McKenzie Rye brand. At 100 proof, it is the same strength at which we barrel age. Much lower than what most commercial distilleries age at, we feel the lower barrel proof extracts the best flavors from the barrel.

The barrel has a spigot so you can test the whiskey from time to time (always a tough part of our job at FLD).

The barrel kits are available for $99 and make an ideal gift for the whiskey connoisseur.  We are also selling the White Dog Rye as individual bottles for $30/each.

Visitors to the distillery over the past 6 weeks have seen the full gamut of McKenzie Whiskies on the shelf. We've moved from Rye (currently on allocation to our retail partners and unavailable at the distillery) to our limited release Wheat (we still have a few bottles left) to our second batch of Bourbon.

Bourbon Batch #2 is very similar to our first round that we sold through in less than 2 months this past spring. It is double pot distilled and produced from corn, rye and barley malt. Very rich in flavor!

Our Bourbon stock has matured to the point that we are making it available at the distillery, as well as rolling it out to our retail partners in NYS. Please ask your local store to give us a call if they are not already stocking it.

Our third batch of rye is still on schedule for release in early 2011. In the meantime, we still have plenty of batch #2 available through our retail partners.

We continue to see some awesome press on our Mt. Vernon involvement.  The Washington Post featured a great shot of Thomas Earl (below) in a piece on Peach Brandy.

Our friend Chris Poh from the American Public House Review continues to track our progress. He updates his readers on our goings-on here.

Celebrity Chef, Marcus Samuelson, utilized our McKenzie Rye in a fall cocktail he crafted for Country Living Magazine. Check out the concoction here - sounds like a great drink for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday.
