Dear Friend of FLD,

I was just saying to my wife, Jenny, "Remember when summer seemed to last forever?" Now the days are flying by and August is almost here.  It has been a great summer, so far. We've enjoyed seeing return visitors at the distillery, here for their summer vacations on beautiful Seneca Lake.

Good things come to those who wait, and the wait is now over for Batch #2 of McKenzie Rye Whiskey! Bottles are ready for tasting and for sale here at the distillery and through our retail partners. The new Rye has some subtle differences from Batch #1 - we think it might even be a little better. Come try it out yourself and let us know what you think!

There are a number of great events coming up in the next few weeks. Catch us at Union Square Wines twice this week for a tasting of our Wildberry Vodka on Friday and the G&T Invitational on Saturday. Another highlight will be a Spirits Class at Ryan's Wine & Spirits in Canandaigua next Wednesday. Check out our Upcoming Tastings section for other goings-on.

Thanks to all of you who have been out to the distillery for a visit and to those of you that are supporting us from afar through your local retailers.

Sincerely,
Brian McKenzie
President, Finger Lakes Distilling

Happy Birthday FLD!

One year ago, on July 17, we opened the doors of our tasting room without a lot of fanfare. Since then, we've hosted thousands of visitors, perfected the quarter ounce pour, and had a great time along the way. We'd like to thank all of you for your support in Year #1.

With the craziness of the season upon us again, we haven't had time to plan a proper celebration for our fans and customers (perhaps something this fall?), but we did want to recognize the contributions of our excellent staff in making our first year a success.

Those of you that have visited our tasting room know how lucky we are to have personable, well educated staff members. We constantly get comments from customers about what a great experience they've had meeting everyone.

Last week, we celebrated with a cruise aboard the Malabar VII Schooner - True Love. It was a perfect night for a sail - mix of sun and clouds with a nice wind. Great food, lots of laughs and of course, a few cocktails, were enjoyed by all.

Also, Finger Lakes Distilling was recently featured in a few well-read publications and blog postings....

NY Times Wine Critic, Eric Asimov, recently dined at ABC Kitchen, a great new restaurant featuring our products in NYC. He kicked off the evening with a McKenzie Rye Manhattan and seemed to really enjoy the experience. Click here for the article and recipe. Our favorite line: "What makes this Manhattan so good...is the combination of superb ingredients in it."  The mention in Martha Stewart Living also continues to boost sales and led to our short term outage of McKenzie Rye.

We've also gotten some great press/reviews on several of our other products. About.com whiskey writer, Lance Mayhew, is rethinking his aversion to vodka after tasting Vintner's (did he really compare us to Biggie Smalls?). Bill Dowd is enjoying gin season with some Seneca Drums in a few interesting cocktails.

We're also continue to get lots of great comments on our recently sold-out McKenzie Bourbon: read here and here
Creative Cocktails

Just whipped this one up.  Easy and tasted great on a lazy, hot summer night! Crisp and refreshing.

Read on for our new policy.

With the season now in high gear, we'd like to inform everyone who might be considering a trip to see us that our group policy is going to be a little different this year.

If you've been on the wine trail on the weekends, you know that it gets pretty busy. As we have a fairly small tasting room, we now only take groups larger than 12 people by appointment and only before noon on the weekends. We want to ensure that we are properly staffed so your group has a great tasting experience.

Give us a call anytime if your interested in a tasting for your group. First come, first served! 607-546-5510 or Email Us!
