Just in... Stirrings Margarita Mixer and Rimmers. A perfect mixer with Glen Thunder on a hot summer day!

Dear Friend of FLD, Ahhhh... summer has arrived in the Finger Lakes! May has been kind with its warm summer days, refreshing lake breezes, and the crowds starting to arrive at the distillery. Our tasting room was packed Memorial weekend and we had a blast seeing lots of familiar faces from last year.
One of the highlights of the month was the Manhattan Cocktail Classic. This 5 day event was filled with tastings of new and old brands, creative cocktails offered by top mixologists, music and excellent food.
While we did partake in a good amount of boozey research, we also worked hard promoting FLD. We made a number of contacts while pouring our whole line up at the Micro Spirits Odyssey. It was a well executed event and we look forward to doing it again next year. See my blog post about the weekend here.
Those of you that have stopped by in the past week or so may have noticed that McKenzie Rye is absent from our shelves. Unfortunately, the remaining stock of Batch #1 is on allocation for our retail partners. In other words, you drank it too fast!
Please don't fret, however, as many of our retailers still have stock and we're only a month or so away from Batch #2 (we think it might even be a little better). In addition, we've still got a little bourbon left as our initial batch was over double what we originally projected.
Believe me, we're committed to making our aged whiskey fans happy. We continue to scale up production to ensure we can meet demand for these delicious whiskies.
Please read on to learn about our latest product news, upcoming events, and some delicious cocktail recipes.
Sincerely, Brian McKenzie President, Finger Lakes Distilling

3rd Annual Ithaca Scottish Games and Celtic Festival
Stewart Park, Ithaca, NY
June 9-10, 2010
Bust out your kilts and start training for the caber toss!
The weekend kicks off with a Tartan Ball on Friday night. This event is BY INVITE ONLY, but don't worry, as an official "Friend of FLD" you will be receiving an invitation. The event will occur at the pavilion in Stewart Park and will include tastings from Finger Lakes Distilling, McGregor Winery, and Ithaca Beer. Dinner, drinks and live entertainment will also be included in the ticket price. Be on the lookout for your e-invitation in the next week or so.
The games begin the following morning. It will be an eventful day of pipe band competitions, athletic and dance events, sheep shearing, and general celebration of our Scottish heritage. The day will conclude with a traditional Scottish Ceilidh featuring the Town Pants. Hope to see you there! |
Creative Cocktails
With the summer weather arriving, we wanted to feature some refreshing cocktails this month. These drinks are easy to make and are great to sip on after mowing the lawn or just hanging at the lake.
Seneca Cup
1.5 oz Seneca Drums Gin
1.5 oz Pimm's Cup No. 1
Top with Ginger Ale
Garnish with a lemon wedge and cucumber spear
Thunderita 1.5 oz Glen Thunder Corn Whiskey
0.75 oz Cointreau or Triple Sec 1.5 oz Fresh lime juice
0.5 Teaspoon sugar or dash of simple syrup
Lime wedge and kosher salt for garnish
This is our take on the classic Margarita. We like to whip these up using Glen Thunder instead of Tequila. Shake top 4 ingredients in shaker. Prepare glass by running lime around rim, dipping in salt, and filling with ice. Pour shaken ingredients in glass and garnish with lime wedge. To simplify, pick up a bottle of Stirrings Margarita mix and rimmer (see new product releases on sidebar).
