TRADE SHOW 2011 - RECAP
| |

On Friday, November 11th and Saturday, November 12th, we hosted our 2nd Annual Rochester Art Supply Trade Show at the High Falls Gallery. Our manufacturer representatives from Jack Richeson, Winsor & Newton, Gamblin, Copic, Artograph, Sennelier, Golden, and Enkaustikos were on hand to answer questions, demonstrate their products, and hold seminars. Many people let us know that they appreciated being able to find out more about the products they use, as well as new products on the market. These representatives provided an invaluable resource, as well as sending many people home with free samples to try out!
Diane Townsend's pastel workshops were filled with participants eager to learn from a woman who not only makes and markets her own rich lines of pastels, but is also a nationally recognized artist!Friday evening was dedicated as "Teachers' Night", giving local teachers the opportunity to learn more about the products they use in their classes. This year we offered local art organizations the chance to promote membership in their groups. Nine organizations brought information and excitement to a room where show participants could wander in and find out if one or more of these art organizations would be a match for them. The organizations had an opportunity to talk with one another, sharing ideas and learning from each other.
We would like to thank our local art community for, once again, showing us their support by attending the show's events and sharing with us their enthusiasm for making art!All in all, it was a wonderful day, in one of Rochester's most inspiring spaces (many thanks to Sally Wood Winslow at the High Falls Gallery!) and it was filled with the spirit of art and community.

Let's Get Started - A Selection of Japanese Papers for Encaustic Use
| |
Although almost any Japanese paper can be adapted for use with encaustic paints and mediums, this package contains 7 varieties that we recommend you start with. This packet of special papers was put together by The Japanese Paper Place in Toronto; specifically for Enkaustikos.
There are two sheets each of seven papers, for a total of 14 sheets per pack. 12 of the sheets measure 8-1/2 x 11 inches, and two sheets measure 7 x 8-1/4 inches. Superbly strong and absorbent, try these papers with encaustic monoprinting, collage, chine colle techniques, direct painting, and more.
You will be surprised and delighted by the texture and inherent translucency of these papers when combined with wax! (The brown and green sheets are Moriki Kozo; colors of this paper will vary from pack to pack.)

NEW! Monster Cubes
| |
History of Japanese paper crafts date all the way back to the Edo period in the 1800s. Combined with unique design and modern box folding techniques, a single sheet of paper transforms into monsters without a need of tape, glue, or even scissors! After assembly, its belly can conveniently store a piece of candy or anything of that size. It can also hold the included mini message card with its mouth or with its hands in certain models. Check out all of our little monsters here. |
