Whoever you are, and wherever you
find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome at Christ
Church, as you are, to receive the blessings of God so freely given.
Friends:
It's going to be a lovely evening in Old City tonight; the cooler weather will be moving in. Join us for worship in the North Garden at 6 PM, followed by a delicious potluck barbeque and fellowship and fun. We gather tonight, and next Wednesday evening the 17th, both times at 6 PM.
Yes, it's hot in church on Sundays, but my spirit was deeply moved in worship this last Sunday morning. At 9 AM, we had visitors from throughout the country who sang the hymns beautifully. At 11 AM, I have been mightily blessed by the Summer Choir. Come and join the choir this Sunday. Report to the church at 10 AM, and Parker Kitterman will have you ready and tuneful by 11 AM to help lead the service. The ability to read music is not necessary, and those who say, "I don't sing well enough to be in a choir" are especially encouraged to participate.
The gospel reading this Sunday morning is one of the most moving and provocative stories in the Gospel: Jesus and the Canaanite Woman. Read it here (skip to verse 21). What do you suppose the woman told her daughter later what really happened on that fateful day?
Please pray for our Rector Emeritus, the Rev. James Trimble, and his family, as they grieve the death of his youngest son, Philip Trimble, who died last Friday by a heart attack. Details of the Memorial Service and Jim's address can be found here.
