The Season of Lent at Christ Church
Thursday, March 31, 2011
Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome at Christ Church, as you are, to receive the blessings of God so freely given.
Friends:

What is the best repertoire for and April Fool's Day organ recital?  That's the challenge for Parker Kitterman, who is offering the First Friday recital at 8 PM at Christ Church.   Besides beautiful and traditional organ music, I couldn't figure out why I was hearing Scott Joplin and the Beatles mixed in the Bach and Rogers and Hammerstein waft up from the practice room.  Turns out a narrator of comic proportions is involved.  I can't wait.  See you on April 1st, 8 PM.  Park legally in the streets of Old City!  "Attending Services" placards are not if effect.

At the Lenten program next Wednesday evening, April 6, we'll learn more about how the King James Bible was brought to life by an improbable collection of translators who often disagreed with each other.  An excellent article on the miracle of the King James translation is found here.

As well, we will have on display a rare copy of the Robert Aitken Bible form 1782, the first Bible printed in the new United States, authenticated by Christ Church rector William White, and authorized by the Congress.  The Aitken Bible tells the American story of the "second Declaration of Independence."  We gather at 6 PM for supper, 6:30 program, and prayers at 7:30 PM.

We are holding up in prayer our former Organist andJohn Binsfeld Choirmaster John Binsfeld, who is a patient at Pennsylvania Hospital for several weeks, receiving chemotherapy.  John is unable to receive visitors, but you can learn about his treatment, leave an online message, and get his address for cards at a special website, located here.  I visited with John as he treatment began, and he, as I, are fully confident in God's love and grace to see him through to a strong recovery.

Easter is Sunday, April 24, and we'll have services at 5 AM, 9 AM and 11 AM.  We rely on Easter Flower Memorials to fill the church with beauty, and Easter Music Memorials to provide the spectacular music.  Return your Easter Memorial envelopes (included in the last Beacon, or available on Sunday) by April 11th.  You may also make Easter Memorials online through our secure giving website.
