Greetings!
Last Wednesday evening, 38 people gathered for the first week of our Lenten program. We hope more will join us tonight. At 6 PM, we put out a big pot of soup and bread, and bring a salad if you wish. At. 6:30 PM, we'll read and meditate on holy scripture, as we are called to do in Lent, using the King James Bible in its 400th year as our starting point. Tonight, we will view and explore one of the rarest King James' Bibles in the Christ Church archives: The Vinegar Bible. At 7:30, we will say our prayers and then be home by 8 PM.
If you have not chosen to observe a Lenten discipline, I urge you to commit to being with us each Wednesday night. Lenten disciplines take many forms, and you may be interested to read about pastor Lillian Daniel's effort to give up consumerism for 40 days.

This coming Sunday morning at our 11 AM service, we welcome the Rev. Dr. Mark Kelly Tyler, senior pastor of Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church at 6th and Lombard, as our preacher. A fellow Californian, Dr. Tyler and I have become good friends since he arrived at Mother Bethel two years ago, and we will be blessed to have such a distinguished preacher on the third Sunday of Lent. You can read about Dr. Tyler and Mother Bethel here.
Many commented that they appreciated hearing about what the Anglican Church is doing after the devastating earthquake in Japan. There is a new update from the Anglican Archbishop for Japan, which can be read here.
Our own Parker Kitterman offers the organ recital on Friday, April 1 at 8 PM (no fooling). Please note that while our "Attending Services" placards don't work that night, and you must park legally, you don't need to pay the meter. Free street parking in Old City on First Friday! Attention Sages: there is a potluck supper before the concert starting at 6 PM. RSVP to Jean Bodine.
Easter is Sunday, April 24, and we'll have services at 5 AM, 9 AM and 11 AM. We rely on Easter Flower Memorials to fill the church with beauty, and Easter Music Memorials to provide the spectacular music. Return your Easter Memorial envelopes (included in the last Beacon, or available on Sunday) by April 11th. You may also make Easter Memorials online through our secure giving website.
