Greetings!
Having heard from many about how cool it was that MacArthur Award-winning, avant-garde musician John Zorn was performing on our church organ this coming Thursday February 24, and feeling so out of it that I didn't know who he was (but I pretended to), I googled him and found out that he plays the saxaphone. A seeming disconnect to me, everyone is telling me that this is what makes the concert so interesting. Christ Church: Hipstoric.
The concert is preceded by a dance performance in Neighborhood House by Moving Parts/Meg Foley. It is the opening night of the nine day dance and musical festival Blindspot. Parker Kitterman will perform March 4. Check out the Blindspot website for tickets and info.
Okay, why am I talking so much about this secular festival in our church emails. Because, for the 98% attending this festival, it will be their only contact with a church for the year, if not the decade. Our best opportunities for evangelism are through welcoming people into our facilities, and letting our church speak to them. If you're here, all the better. Cecilia Wagner is organizing volunteers and ushers to help welcome the public. Be in touch.
For those of us regulars, I coninue this Sunday at 10:10 AM the six-week all parish confirmation class. Why is Anglicanism, which includes our Episcopal Church, referred to the "three-legged stool" and the "via media?" Why is our understanding of the eucharist known as "the doctrine of the real presence?" Who crafted the Nicene Creed, and what does it mean to say, "We believe. . . ." if we aren't absolutely sure?
This Sunday afternoon at 12:30 continues the three week Life at Christ Church class for people thinking about formal membership at Christ Church. Let Cecilia Wagner know if you'll be there.
Maybe you can join in the next shelter meal? Join the employment seekers support group. Help provide a Mardi Gras party for the families of the St. Barnabas Shelter. Details in the weekly announcements.
By the way, find me on Facebook.
