The Christ Church Community Update
Friday, October 22, 2010
Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome at Christ Church, as you are, to receive the blessings of God so freely given.

Greetings!

The Rev. Susan Richardson presides and celebrates at the 9 AM and 11 AM services this Sunday, and I, like you, give thanks to God for her priestly ministry among us and through Christ Church these past four years.  After the 11 AM service, we will have a festive reception for Susan, and send her with blessings and Godspeed to her new congregation,Grace-St. Paul, in Mercerville, NJ.

I can see that the 11 AM service reflects much of Susan's passion for ministry.  It is the Children's Sabbath, baptism and eucharist, and the service is full of openness and welcome.  And the music!  We begin in South Africa, sing from the Sacred Harp, hear a spiritual from the Underground Railroad, sing in the rhythms of Puerto Rico, and conclude with Mozart's transcendent Ave Verum Corpus and Beethoven's Hymn to Joy, topped off by a Bach Prelude and Fugue.  Maybe Parker Kitterman will work in a little Bob Dylan and Gershwin (and I don't put it past him).

You may still contribute to a gift and purse for Susan, which we will present after the 11 AM service.  Details on contributing are here.

Financial Fast Facts and Year-End Giving at Christ Church
  • Christ Church has budgeted more than $100,000 coming from our current pledging members by December 31st, a goal we will reach if all pledges are completed.
  • To meet our budget, Christ Church asks our non-pledging members and friends to contribute $30,000 by year end in Sunday offerings, donations for Christmas, and/or special year end gifts.
  • The best way to contribute is in the offering plate on Sunday; second best, but fastest, is to make a secure online contribution right now.  Click here and arrive at the secure website for Christ Church members and friends, use your email address to get a password, and follow the instructions under "Give Now" or "Giving."  You can even check your pledge balance, make a memorial contribution for Christmas flowers, help the needy, or provide the cymbals for Christmas eve!
