Greetings!
This Sunday morning, our holy scriptures call us to reflect on how to treat a person identified by the majority as "other." Is she or he to be cast out or brought in, shunned or welcomed, praised or bullied?
I use the word "bullied" purposefully, as bullying played a part this past week in the tragic suicide of Tyler Clementi, a gay teenager and freshman at nearby Rutgers University. He is one of six recent suicides among LGBT teens, and I will speak in my sermon as to what I believe Christians like you and me should be doing to change the climate that Tyler, and so many teens, including our own, live in each day. At 4PM, there is a vigil for Tyler and other teens at the William Way Center in Center City. Details are here.
The Fall Fête on Sunday evening, Oct. 17, is filling up fast. Make your reservation by Tuesday, October 12 to secure the $10 per person/$30 per group price. The price may have to be higher after and on the day of the event. You can RSVP by sending email to Cecilia Wagner, and you can purchase your dinner ticket through our secure website here.
The Fall Fête will be an evening of fun, food and fellowship in the Neighborhood House, and a celebration of the ministry and ministries of Christ Church. Don't miss it, and don't forget that Parker Kitterman gives his premier organ recital at 5 PM.
Many have already contributed toward a gift and purse for the Rev. Susan Richardson who has been called as Rector of Grace-St. Paul in Mercerville. We will present the gifts after the 11 AM service on Sunday, October 24 in a festive a reception. If you would like to contribute for a gift and purse for Susan, information is here.
