An Advent Service
of waiting, seeking and hoping.

We gather for holy eucharist in the candlelit church, bringing our hopes and fears for the season, and our prayers for the coming of God's presence into our lives.

The service will flow from the worship workshop earlier in the afternoon.  If you would like to share in workshop, please see details below.

A workshop to help Christ Church discern the future of our worship, Sunday afternoon December 6.worshipworkshop

Thanks to a grant to Christ Church Philadelphia - from the Lilly Foundation through the Calvin Institute of Worship - for exploring new liturgical and musical resources within the Anglican traditions, Christ Church will host an afternoon workshop on Sunday, December 6, culminating in a special Advent liturgy at 5 p.m.

Tim Safford about An Altar in the WorldThe workshop will be led by the Rev. Stephanie Spellers, author of Radical Welcome and founder of the emergent church community within Cathedral of St. Paul, Boston, called The Crossing, and by Ed Broms, director of music from the cathedral and a skilled jazz musician. They will focus on musical and liturgical possibilities based on, in the words of Archbishop Rowan Williams, "a mixed economy" of tradition and innovation. Together we'll work through the classic "ordo" of worship, with resources that are interpreted and refreshed.
Ed Broms

The workshop begins with lunch provided at 12:30 and ends with the service from 5-6 p.m.
Registration deadline is Tuesday, December 1. To register, please email Cecilia Wagner.  Please indicate if childcare is needed.

As always, all are welcome at the 5 p.m. service, regardless of whether they have participated in the workshop.  Have your family and friends come join you!
