Neighborhood House Construction Update #1
June 2009
WE BEGIN!

N/H Atrium Inside
A project 10 years in the making began this week--Access 2010--which will bring an elevator to Neighborhood House, make the building accessible for all visitors, create new exhibition space for tourists, double the size of the historic archives, and provide a safe, fire-protected building that will serve Philadelphia for the next 100 years.
Neighborhood House, just to the west of Christ Church, serves many functions.  It is Old City's  community center with 150 organizations using the meeting spaces each year; it houses the historic archives of the church; it is home to numerous start-up and emerging theatre companies, and it is the base for Church and Trust offices and functions.

New exhibitions in the entry atrium will present real stories about "Religious Freedom", and their historic roots in Philadelphia.  This is the first step in creating a new thematic focus for the 280,000 tourists who visit Christ Church each year.

This $3 million project is the next step in the full renovation on Neighborhood House.  More work will come as funds permit.  We have a long way to go, but, all of this is made possible by the generous financial support from the Christ Church Capital Campaign that so many parishioners, community leaders, foundations and agencies have funded.

Sincerely,
