| Greetings! | |
Happy New Year!
Now, get back to work!!!!!
OK, OK. That was a bit harsh. If You are not quite ready to get back to work, maybe your students are? If so, you should plan to attend our next training titled, "Creating Meaningful Skills Tubs" scheduled for January 24, 2012, in Mustang, OK. This workshop will get you ready to implement an easy Meaningful Skills Program into your therapy, home or classroom for individuals with disabilities. Participants will be given the materials to create 10 Meaningful Skills Tubs ready to implement the next school day. For each tub the participant will receive visual directions, tub manipulatives, and a tracking chart. Meaningful Skills Tubs: provide a structured learning environment, offer routine, provide hands-on activities with visual easy to follow step by step instructions, encourage independent meaningful skill development, break down activities into small, do-able chunks, similar to applied behavioral analysis (ABA) and TEACCH methods, and teach effective use of time. Send in your registration today! Space is limited and the registration deadline is January 10, 2012!

| Activity of the Month | When do you introduce pre-vocational activities to students? There really is no 'prescribed' age and I have found that even students at the elementary level enjoy the structure and sense of accomplishment of a job well done. Here are some ideas to get you going (or to update your current set of tasks. Remember, variety is the spice of life!). | Amazing Apps! | This iPad app is the newest AAC app to hit the iTunes Store and I have to admit, it puts a smile on my face! This robust language system is based on core vocabulary and reinforces language learning through motor planning. It is one of the more expensive AAC apps ($299.00), but it appears to be worth the price. OATC has it available on our iPad loan devices! |

| Poetry can be fun and opens doors to creativity and expression from even your most severely involved students. This nifty website walks you through the process of writing an acrostic poem (it even defines 'acrostic poem' for you!). This could be a fun group or individual project on a Smartboard! For your students who are non-verbal or use an AAC device plan ahead to provide and/or teach topic vocabulary. Write your next masterpiece now! |

Bookstream is a relatively new service from Don Johnston which provides a convenient way to store, organize, and assign etext to your students. People, this is the way of the future! Imagine a world where backpacks full of textbooks no longer weigh down our students. A world where our students can access their instructional text from any web enabled device (iPhone, iPad, iPod, laptop, tablet, etc.).
