| Greetings! |
I hope you are making plans to attend the 2011 Assistive Technology Expo scheduled for December 6, 2011, from 8am-4pm at the Moore Norman Technology Center! This FREE event is open to parents, individuals with disabilities, teachers, therapists; basically anyone with an interest in learning more about Assistive Technology. Vendors from assistive technology companies will be present to demonstrate their devices and provide information, and we will have 1-hour breakout sessions scheduled throughout the day. CEU's are available for PT's, OT's and SLP's! Please help us spread the word about this great event by or downloading and sharing the registration form from our website: AT Expo Registration Form. Online registration is also available at: Online AT Expo Registration.
In addition to the AT Expo, we have two great pre-conference trainings scheduled for December 5, 2011, also at the Moore Norman Technology Center. Making AAC Work with the Educational Curriculum: This workshop will discuss teaching strategies to improve language skills for all children, including those who use AAC. The workshop will then address the process of adapting classroom materials as we discuss how IEP goals, educational standards and curriculum content are covered with an emphasis on high frequency words. High tech and low tech support materials will be discussed.
Moving from "They" to "We": This workshop will provide ideas and actual strategies for developing meaningful working relationships with students, general education teachers, paraprofessionals and parents. Discussion topics will include increasing meaningful communication across different settings and individuals, potential barriers and challenges special education teachers may encounter, ideas for overcoming these barriers, and hands-on suggestions for increasing interactions between students with significant disabilities and their peers/school/community using service learning projects. The workshop will provide information about incorporating assistive technology of all kinds into daily routines and activities for students and how to bridge the gap between settings and people to increase the likelihood the AT will be used outside of the classroom.
These pre-conference offerings are FREE for Level II AT Team Members and $40.00 for everyone else. Online Registration: Making AAC Work with the Educational Curriculum. Moving from "They" to "We". OR Download Registration form. Scholarships are available! OATC Scholarship Application. We hope to see you in December at the Expo! The OATC Gang |

Tap-It stands for "Touch Accessible Platform Interactive Technology" and this is a truly innovative piece of technology. Think SmartBoard on steroids. Its stand alone design (no projector), advanced touch technology, and universally designed accessibility features (adjustable height, 0-90 degree tilt options for the interactive LCD panel, 42" screen size) makes this device unique and provides us with a glimpse into the future of interactive classroom design. I recently stumbled across this website and quickly bookmarked it! You do have to wade through quite a bit of advertising, but there are so many helpful links, printables, and practical classroom ideas. This site is geared toward children with autism, but many of the resources would be helpful for any child with special needs. Click here to visit Cindy's Autistic Support.
