Making All the Difference By Making it Different Oklahoma City
Greetings!
Neither ice, nor sleet, nor snow will stop us from doing our job!  We had to reschedule our final Level II training for the 2010-11 school year due to snow, but I guarantee it will be worth the wait!  Libby S.  Rush will present Making all the Difference by Making it Different on May 12, 2011, at the Francis Tuttle Technology Center in Oklahoma City.  Her training will demonstrate creative ways to help students with disabilities gain access to the general education curriculum and learn core academic content similar to grade level peers.  You will not only walk away with great ideas, but also receive a CD of resources from Libby to take back and use in your classroom right away!  See the full course description and download a registration form here: Making All the Difference

Prentke Romich is offering another training in the Tulsa area titled, Putting LAMP to Work: AAC Strategies for Promoting the Development of Communication for Individuals with ASD.  It will be held at the OU Schusterman Center on April 14, 2011 from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and it's FREE! Visit the Center for AAC and Autism for more information and to register.

Sincerely,
The OATC Gang

dynamic keyboardThe Dynamic Keyboard is something new and interesting for those individuals who need to use an onscreen keyboard.  The image to the left seems confusing, but once you watch the short video demonstrating how it works you will see just how clever it is.  It also has word prediction!  Kate Ahern demonstrates it in her recent blog post: Dynamic Keyboard.
 Grab Bag
brain controlled wheelchairWell what do you know? A brain controlled wheelchair!  What a great idea!  Now, before you try to order one, know that the technology is still in development.  The idea is that sensors attached to your head respond to brain waves that in turn, cause the wheelchair to change direction, start or stop moving.  Pretty cool!  You can see it in action on this YouTube video: Brain Controlled Wheelchair.  If you want to get all technical, read the paper that was shared at CSUN last month: CSUN Paper on Brain Controlled Wheelchair.

No Tech Corner
card holderUNO anyone???  What?  You say you can't play cards because you have trouble holding on to them?  We can fix that with our nifty, thrifty CD case card holder.  All you need is a plastic CD case, a metal brad, and some clear packing tape.  See the detailed instructions for making your own card holder here: CD Case Card Holder.

Wishing you all the best!
