IntelliTools Classroom Suite: Beyond Basics
Oklahoma City & Tulsa
Greetings!
I LOVE the first day of school!  I love the excitement of the students, the extraordinary possibilities for the new year, & the smell of new sneakers and pencils.  I hope you, too, are excited for this upcoming school year and are ready for the fun and challenges it is sure to bring.

Speaking of 'fun', 'new' and 'challenges', I just discovered a training resource on our very own Oklahoma State Department of Ed. website. It is the  21st Century Learning Lab.  They have trainings on how to make podcasts and use iPods for instructional purposes, create digital storytelling projects, and instructions on how to use the eInstruction Classroom Performance System.  These mainstream educational technologies are Perfect for many of our students with learning, physical, speech, and/or cognitive differences!  Check them out!

Sincerely,
The OATC Gang

 Website Wowzers!
ATIA logoWant to learn more about the exciting world of Assistive Technology, but can't afford to pay to attend one of the BIG AT conferences?  Weep no more!  You can virtually attend a number of excellent 60-90 minute webinars hosted by one of the leaders in AT continuing education, Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA).  Sure it isn't Chicago in October or Orlando in January, but it is cheap ($39-49), you get CEU's, you can learn from the comforts of your own computer, AND you can interact with some of the best professionals in
the field of AT!  Learn More About ATIA Webinars HERE.

Freeware
mindmeister logoTechnically, this isn't freeware, but they DO have a free trial.  This is an online web-mapping software program, much like Inspiration, with the advantage of being a web based program.  This is helpful if you happen to work with students in more than one location.  It also has some nice interactive features in which you can create maps online, then work on them on your iPad or iPod touch, and you can collaborate online with students in another location.  Download your free trial here: MindMeister Free Trial

I have a confession to make.  Your friends here at OATC have a slight addiction to the Dollar Tree.  Really, we do!  And it carries over to the dollar racks at Target and Wal-Mart too!  We don't really want a cure for this, especially since finding this website: Dollar Store Crafts.  Need I say more??  What does this have to do with AT you might be asking yourself?  Honestly, not that much.  BUT, think about the craft activities you could do with your students!  AND, your students COULD use AT to help with tasks like cutting (switch adapted scissors), pouring glitter (switch adapted pouring cup), gluing (using a milk jug glue stick holder), etc....  I say, "Feed your addiction"!!!

Want some adaptive design inspiration?  Check out this YouTube video showcasing some interesting no/low tech adaptations made for individuals with a variety of needs.  Many of the items are made with multi-layer corrugated cardboard.  They offer classes in New York to teach you how to design and create your own adapted equipment.  Not able to travel to NY, but are interested in some of the items you saw in the video?  They also sell equipment to fit the individual needs of your students. Wishing you all the best!
