Tar Heel ReaderTarheel Reader
Oh how frustrating it can be to find that 'Just Right' reading material for your older, non-traditional readers.  Where is the book about OU or OSU football written for emergent readers?  And, can I get it in a format that will read to my student?  Please???  Hold on to your seats ladies and gentlemen, but I may have the solution for you!!  Tarheel Reader"is a collection of free, easy-to-read, and accessible books on a wide range of topics. The books may be read online or downloaded as slide shows in PowerPoint, Impress, or Flash format. Each book can be speech enabled and accessed using multiple interfaces, including touch screens, the IntelliKeys with custom overlays, and 1 to 3 switches."  There are currently thousands of books to choose from and if you can't find one you like, it is oh so easy to make your own.  Promise!!  To log into the site and start writing your own books, you do need to register.  But that part is easy too.  Promise!!
Freeware
Camera Mouse
FREE Camera Mouse software!!
Are you working with someone on computer access and wonder if a head mouse would be an appropriate method of direct selection?  There are excellent, commercially available options out there (we have a few in our loan library, 1-800-700-6282), but in most cases they can be costly.  Why not try the FREE Camera Mouse software? Camera Mouse Link.  All you need is a standard USB webcam and Windows Vista or XP.  This organization also provides links to other free software options that allow for mouse options such as right click, left click, double click, click and drag, and dwell click.

No Tech Corner
Milk Jug Crayon Holder   Milk Jug Crayon Holder
A few years ago I went to Closing the Gap and out of all the technology I saw during that wonderful conference, this little tool blew me away!  I am sad to say I do not remember the "No Tech Ladies" who showcased this item in their session so I could give them all the credit for this fun and simple idea.  For complete instructions on how to make your own Milk Jug Crayon holder, click here: Milk Jug Crayon Holder Directions

Wishing you all the best!
