Update on the Newport City Council Strategic Plan

City Council Chambers

   

The Newport City Council began its work on a Strategic Plan for the city government in the fall of 2010. By City Charter, the Council is required to have a Strategic Plan. The fifth Strategy Session took place in January 2012 with facilitator Hank Kniskern. All members of the Council were present as was the new City Manager, Jane Howington. Read More...

Rhode Island Switches from "Dual Recycling" to "Single Stream" on Earth Day 2012

Recycling Bins 

Every day, approximately 175 trucks deliver roughly 380 tons of material to the the Rhode Island Municipal Recycling Facility or the MRF, located at the Johnston Landfill.  Both residential and commercial recyclables are processed at the Johnston MRF.  Read More...

34th America's Cup Legacy Centers On Healthy Oceans and Sustainability

With the Newport stop on the journey to the 2013 America's Cup just months away the planning has begun.  Not only are the typical details being attended to but so too begins the Cup's sustainability journey, a key component of the 34th America's Cup legacy program. The America's Cup Event Authority (ACEA) is partnering with global and local ocean conservation efforts to reach people around the world who have an affinity for our world's oceans, and motivate them to act to improve the health of the oceans. Read more...

Volunteer Opportunities

 
 

Newport relies on volunteers.  They are serving the city and its institutions all around town.  That's because we enjoy living in our wonderful city, seeing friends and neighbors, and contributing to the betterment of our lives in Newport.

 

The Alliance of a Livable Newport relies on volunteers and is currently seeking help from our neighbors in Newport.  We need your help on the writing and editing our newsletter, planning and running public forums, and building our membership.

 

If you have a few hours a month, and to want to become involved with people that are working hard for the City of Newport, contact the Volunteer Coordinator and we will be in touch about the ways you can become involved with the ALN.
