New Water Rates Water drop

 

Our water rates (both residential and commercial) will be going up significantly over the next 4 years. Newport has no choice, because it must meet increasingly stringent state and federal water quality regulations.  There is a consent agreement between Newport and the Rhode Island Department of Health that requires the improvements needed to meet these regulations be made by December 31, 2014.

Now that spring has finally arrived, it is time to smell the roses and count our blessings. One community blessing is a small, nascent program called Baby Steps which is operated monthly out of the Florence Gray Center. Re-Building Together

Re-Building Together
 
A group of volunteers including neighbors, the Newport County Board of Realtors, employees from Sayer, Regan and Thayer, employees of RI Occupational Therapy and a host of others are being led by general contractor Patrick McGrath of Patrick's Residential Services rebuilding the home of Carol Ann Walker at 1 Nicol Terrace.  Ms. Walker applied for assistance with her home after seeing an ad in one of the local papers.  Read more...

Surplus Navy Lands 

 

On Thursday, April 7th, The Aquidneck IslandStreet Signs Reuse Planning Authority (AIRPA) presented a set of alternatives for the Newport Naval Station's 225 acres of surplus land on Aquidneck Island. The public meeting was held at the Community College of Rhode Island in Newport.  The only Newport site, the Naval Hospital, is located on Third Street, and is seven acres, with three of the acres submerged land in the Bay.  The remaining parcels are in either Middletown or Portsmouth.
