Transforming Education in Rhode Island
ALN FORUM FEATURES COMMISSIONER GIST On Thursday, July 22nd at CCRI, Newport, ALN hosted a forum on public education reform entitled "Transforming Education in Rhode Island" presented by Deborah Gist, R.I. Commissioner of Education. Attended by approximately 75 residents of Newport County, Commissioner Gist outlined her priorities for the next five years. Read more...

August Noise Forum
On September 8, 2008 ALN held a forum that turned out to be one of the best attended presentations to date. The forum was titled "The Nuisance of Noise". An overflow crowd of concerned Newporters heard discussion and asked questions about car and motorcycle noise, party noise and amplified music. The forum featured input from city officials regarding the control measures and tools the city had in place to help "keep the peace".

Re-builiding a home on Off Broadway
Rebuilding Together is the nation's leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. The local chapter, Rebuilding Together Greater Newport County, is headed by Susan McCoy and a board of directors. The true strength of the organization, however, is the hundreds of volunteers who do everything from fundraising to actually "banging the nails" when the time comes. Read More...

Meet Isabel Griffith, ALN Vice-President
Born and raised in Dallas, TX, Isabel has two degrees from Southern Methodist University. Her teaching career began in Virginia and she has taught in elementary, middle, and high schools as well as in higher education. Two single sex, girls' boarding and day schools helped shape her career. She served as Department Chair (Science), worked in Admissions and became Academic Dean, Associate Head and finally, Interim Head of School. While living in Virginia, Isabel and her then husband operated a farm and had some success racing horses in MD, NY, PA and DE. She was Upper School Head at The Latin School of Chicago before becoming a consultant to independent schools. Read More...
