The life of Dr. Clifford Allen (EdD '60), benefactor of the Clifford H. and Betty C. Allen Chair in Urban Leadership, was celebrated in a memorial service at Rossier last week.  Dr. Allen died in August at the age of 97.

Comments from Dean Gallagher, Professors Guilbert Hentschke and Dominic Brewer, and California Credit Union CEO Ron McDaniel captured Dr. Allen's rare sense of humor and his passion for USC and its students, as well as his wife, Betty.  He was a retired chief business officer in Los Angeles Unified School District for many years and a leader in the fields of risk management and benefits management.  He was also an adjunct professor at USC andPepperdine University.

He was involved with the California Teacher's Credit Union (later the California Credit Union)Board for 40 years, seven of which he served as Chairman, and led a series of initiatives that provided educators throughout the state with exceptional financial services.

He and his late wife, Betty, endowed the Allen Chair in 2002, now held by Dr. Brewer.
