It seems that when you mention shrubs with Fall color, people tend to think Burning Bush, but there are many more options. There's a good chance you've never seen a Callicarpa (Beautyberry) close-up in the Fall (or if you have, you may not have known what it was called). It's abundant clusters of purple berries are absolutely stunning and it is deer resistant. The fall foliage color varies, but is often a nice red.
Viburnums come in all sizes and shapes and also offer lots of Fall color. The berries are larger than those of the Callicarpa, but also

occur in clusters. The colors are red to blue to dark purple. Foliage color is outstanding as well from orange-red to a bright shiny red to a deep maroon, depending on the variety and the weather.

The berries on Hollies and Cotoneaster, as well as the fruit on some Crabapples, provide a brilliant red in the garden.
