Dear Friend,

By the time some people come to LYDIA, their lives are chaotic and out of control. Helping them overcome obstacles such as drug addiction, homelessness and gang involvement can take months, even years. The work is difficult, sometimes discouraging, and requires plenty of patience.

Other clients, however, need only a brief encounter with LYDIA to experience relief in the midst of stressful circumstances. Those are the stories that LYDIA staff and volunteers talk about with a big smile - it's exciting to see God move fast.

What happened in Aimee's life is a good example. Soon after giving birth to her second child, Aimee - a single mom - decided to go off her medication in order to breast-feed her baby safely. A mental health crisis followed and Aimee was hospitalized. With no extended family members to rely on, she turned to Safe Families. Two host families stepped up to support Aimee, welcoming five-month old Brian and four-year-old Brandon into their homes.

After Aimee's brief hospitalization, the family was reunited and the boys were returned home. "If Safe Families hadn't been there for me, I would have lost custody of my children,"
Aimee says today. "Thanks to Safe Families, I'm doing fine now." Aimee tells us that Safe Families volunteers still visit and occasionally help with the children, just to give her a break. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
