Sometimes a few short days with Safe Families can alter the course of a life. That was certainly the case for "Aimee," who has experienced more in her 26 years than most people do in a lifetime.

Both of Aimee's parents were incarcerated when she was a child. She became a ward of the state of at age 12 and grew up in Indiana's foster care system. For years, Aimee has struggled with depression and loneliness. In her early 20s, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and told she would never have children. She battled the cancer with tough determination and eventually defeated the disease. Perhaps not surprisingly, she went on to have two beautiful children.
