| Safe Families Keeps Family Together
Sometimes a few short days with Safe Families can alter the course of a life. That was certainly the case for "Aimee," who has experienced more in her 26 years than most people do in a lifetime.
Both of Aimee's parents were incarcerated when she was a child. She became a ward of the state of at age 12 and grew up in Indiana's foster care system. For years, Aimee has struggled with depression and loneliness. In her early 20s, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and told she would never have children. She battled the cancer with tough determination and eventually defeated the disease. Perhaps not surprisingly, she went on to have two beautiful children. Aimee faithfully attends counseling and has completed classes to learn to be a good mom. READ MORE

| Matching Grant Opportunity! |
LYDIA has received a two-year, $25,000 matching grant from an anonymous foundation that will help strengthen its services to at-risk children and families. Gifts from new donors will be matched dollar for dollar, as will "above and beyond" gifts from current donors. For example, if you gave $250 to LYDIA last year and give a total of $500 in 2012, the $250 increase will be matched dollar for dollar.
Money raised through the grant will benefit Safe Families, but gifts made to any LYDIA program (or the general fund) will be matched. We hope you will take advantage of this special opportunity in 2012! Click here to donate now.

Creativity Counts |
We're excited about a recent burst of creative fundraising for LYDIA! In January, Joyride Cycle Studio in Highwood hosted an event in which sponsors donated about $1,000. Another friend of the ministry hosted a Valentine's Day Party in her home, and encouraged guests to bring donations for LYDIA. The event raised $1,000! If you have an idea for a creative fundraiser, please contact Erica Dorantes, Associate Director of Development, by email or call 773-653-2249. |
