An Opportunity to Help LUA Students Achieve Their Dreams

If you've ever wanted to be part of the team that encourages LYDIA Urban Academy students to keep working toward their goals, now is your chance! We've launched a new sponsorship program that allows you not only to give financially but provide encouragement for students as well.

The program offers three levels of support-$500, $1,500 and $3,000. Gifts can be made all at once or in 10 monthly installments. When you sign up, we can send you a link to one of our student's "dream blogs." You'll receive regular posts and updates about their lives, their studies and dreams. You can even post your own words of wisdom and encouragement.

Team LYDIA

Team LYDIA members who participated in the Chicago Half Marathon & 5K on Sept. 11.

Many thanks to members of Team LYDIA, who have raised more than $16,000 this year to benefit LYDIA Urban Academy and Safe Families for Children! Team members solicit donations for LYDIA and run in various races, most recently this month's Chicago Half Marathon & 5K. About her involvement, one runner said: "LYDIA became close to me when a friend became a Safe Families volunteer. I was impressed by the ministry's unique approach. Helping at-risk children has always been an interest, and LYDIA followed many of my own ideas. Why not try and help?"

Life Lessons for an Inner City Student

Tubing was just one of the activities LUA students did at the Lake House in Michigan.

Just as school began this August, LYDIA Urban Academy teacher Travis Satterlee was preparing students for a day trip to southern Michigan, where friends had offered their lake house. He was amazed to discover that one student, John, had no concept of life beyond Chicago.

"I was showing the class a map of where we were going, and it soon became clear to me that John's whole world was Chicago. He thought anywhere outside of Chicago was another country," Travis says. "Although some students become wary of the idea of leaving the only thing they know, John was very excited. He wanted to try new things and experience all that the trip had to offer."
