projectMUSIC Raises $30,000 for LYDIA Kids

The children who live at LYDIA's Residential Treatment Center will be going to camp twice this year! And it's all thanks to the success of projectMUSIC. The event, held May 7, featured a private performance by Grammy Award-Winning artist Sugar Blue, as well as a "step routine" by the boys who live at LYDIA. The event raised $30,000 (plus almost $8,000 from our silent auction). Many thanks to event organizers Dan and Kim Michelson and to our sponsors: Added Incentives, Catalyst Ranch, Catered by Design, Citibank, The Grand Food Center, Lee Ross Photography and Ovation Events.

Moody Church Blesses 800 Kids

Moody Redemption Project 2011

LYDIA would like to extend a warm thank you to The Moody Church family for the Redemption Bag Project. We received 800 bags filled with much-needed items such as diapers, formula or clothing for children who are placed in the care of Safe Families volunteers. These items are such a blessing to those families who take in children. This project was the first of its kind for LYDIA, and we were overwhelmed by your support.

Creative College Students Support LYDIA

projectMUSIC isn't the only creative fundraiser generating donations for LYDIA. This spring, the Harper College Honors Program staged an on-campus variety show to benefit LYDIA.

"Our students are interested in community service," says sophomore Maral Mjukian, president of the honors program. "At Christmastime, we hung out with kids at LYDIA's Residential Treatment Program and gave them presents. It was a really different experience for me - I come from a close family, which is something these kids don't have. I really wanted to do something for them."

About 165 people attended the variety show, which featured 20 acts. The event raised $630 through ticket sales.

We welcome your creative fundraising ideas! If interested, please contact Erica Dorantes, by email or call 773-653-2249.

An Unusual Ending to a Safe Families Placement

Kelli and BraydenKelli, a single mom with twin teenagers, describes her first Safe Families placements as enjoyable but somewhat routine. Then along came Brayden, who changed her life forever. "The biological mom, Deb, was having a lot of emotional issues and was very unstable," Kelli says. "Over the next few months, I realized that she was putting herself into very unsafe situations and associating with dangerous people. READ MORE
