Hello, friends!
I guess I never grew out of the "back-to-school" routine, because there's something about fall that just makes me feel like getting down to business. I'm ready to get back into a serious schedule, do some cleaning, start some new projects....
While summer is about having fun and relaxing, gardening, catching up with friends and spending time outside, fall is all about prepping for the long season ahead. By knitting, of course!
For our September and October 2012 class schedule, we've rounded up some of the most popular kits and projects from 2012 and beyond. (You ask, we listen!) You'll find lots of Saturday classes, a few afternoon sessions and even some evening classes--something to fit every schedule! We hope something piques your interest, but don't wait too long to sign up-- these classes are limited to six students each and fill up fast. Questions? Don't hesitate to call (231) 228-2800. Happy knitting! Melissa

Friday, September 14th
4-6 p.m. OR
Saturday, October 13th
1-3 p.m. $20
Somewhere, sometime in the land of knitting, gauge was given a bad name. Mastering gauge--or at the very least, understanding how to achieve it--is the tool that will take you from a shy, novice knitter to a well-equipped one. Gauge puts your mind at ease. Once you have done your background work, you can be assured a knitted piece will fit.
One 2-hour session. Materials included. ***We suggest taking Mastering Gauge as a warm-up to the My First Sweater class (see more information below.)To sign up, click here or call (231) 228-2800.

Two 2-hour sessions. You'll need to arrive a few minutes before class to pick out and purchase your materials.

Friday, September 21st
4-6 p.m. OR Saturday, October 27th 1-3 p.m. $25
One of the most important aspects of knitting isn't the actual knitting--it's the sewing, seaming & wrestling that some cleverly call "finishing". Knowing how to match up the proper techniques insures overall knitting success. This session will put you at ease, leaving you to create pieces you're proud to call hand-knit. We'll focus on the three major seams you encounter in the knitting world, as well as the infamous Kitchener stitch. (Which isn't nearly as difficult as you think. Really.) We hold this class at least once a month, year-round; these techniques are essential for knitting success! One 2-hour session. Materials included.

Saturdays, September 22nd & 29th
1-3 p.m. $25
I really can't get over these monster patterns. I've knit both a Penelope and Daphne and Delilah duo and I can speak from experience that these patterns are simple, quick-to-knit and well-written. They make fabulous gifts at baby showers; although I'm always an advocate for sweet little sweaters, hats and booties, a baby (or a toddler!) can cuddle with a monster for years to come. Even my sisters, who are 28, are fighting over who gets to take home the Wool & Honey shop samples. (They're both wrong--I'm keeping them! Two 2-hour sessions. You'll need to arrive a few minutes before class to pick out and purchase your materials. Choose from Penelope, Jerry or Daphne and Delilah. To sign up, click here or call (231) 228-2800.

Saturdays, September 29th, October 6th & 13th
3-5 p.m.
$35
Ever wonder why this project is so popular with knitters? They're fun, they're portable, they're relatively inexpensive....in our minds, they might be considered the perfect knitting project. Once you've braved socks, there's nothing you can't knit. (And yup, we're talking about double-pointed needles here!) Knit in a heavier gauge yarn than fit-in-your-shoes socks, these knit up very quickly on size 5 needles--much quicker than the traditional socks so that you can track your progress throughout the class.
Three 2-hour sessions. You'll need to arrive a few minutes before class to pick out and purchase your materials.

THREE FELTED BOWLS | |
Monday, October 15th
6-9 p.m. $20
Keeping clutter to a minimum (or at least storing clutter in an attractive way!) can be a full time job. These little felted vessels help enormously. They're about as simple as they come--a knitted tube, essentially (with few decreases thrown in for good measure), a bit of hand felting and you're done. Knit one for the entryway table to house keys and spare change, one for your knitting needles and one for a vase of flowers! (Inside the tall white version is a pint-sized Mason jar to stablize the bowl.) And here's another little something to think about: these felted bowls make wonderful holiday gifts! One 3-hour session. You'll need to arrive a few minutes before class to pick out and purchase your materials. To sign up, click here or call (231) 228-2800. |
DAYBREAK SHAWL | |
Tuesdays, October 23rd & 30th
6 to 8 p.m. $25
Daybreak is a semicircular shawl featuring clear, graphic stripes that echo a rising sun. The generous wingspan allows the fabric to drape comfortably around your shoulders and neck. There is plenty of room to play with color in the three sections of this project. It's worked in a sock yarn in a fun striping pattern and looks especially nice with handpainted and striping yarns.
Two 2-hour sessions. You will need to arrive a few minutes early to pick out and purchase your materials.
