Wool & Honey
Early Fall At Wool & Honey
Hiya, knit fans!

Sunset

I feel a little like this picture right now--the sun is setting on an absolutely wonderful summer.  And while I'm so sad to see it go, I know that something else lovely is on its way: Fall.  The Season of Knit, to be precise!  The season for big, cozy cowls and high school football games  and warm, fuzzy mittens and late nights knitting in front of the fire with a mug of hot tea and....well.  I guess I am ready for Fall!

And do we have some wonderful things planned for the crisper months ahead.  (Hint: the plans involve yarn.  Lots of it.)  This just might be our best year yet.  In fact, we're planning on it.

The day after Labor Day, we'll be sending out a schedule for a very full class lineup.  We'll be focusing on small accessories (think socks, mittens and every variation on the scarf you can think of), baby projects (including the monsters you see below), a few technique classes (Fair Isle, anyone?) and a My First Sweater class for those of you ready for your first big project.  (It's not nearly as hard as you think.  Truly.)

Take a peek at some of the new things that have been trickling into the shop.  We're pretty darn excited about the season ahead--stop in soon for a bit of wooly inspiration!

Stone Blue Full Size
100% Merino wool
210 yds--100 g
4 sts per inch on US 9 needles
5 sts per inch on US 7 needles
$12.95

Malabrigo Yarns have set the industry standard for versatility, amazing depth of color and kitten-like softness. The original Malabrigo Merino Worsted is a kettle-dyed Merino wool with the subtle variations in color and texture that only hand-dyed yarns can have--and all the sensuality of a good handspun yarn. This worsted weight yarn is great for mittens, hats, scarves, cowls, baby garments and adult sweaters.

We especially like using Malabrigo Worsted to knit our featured pattern, the Cabled Wrists--one skein will make two pair!

pattern sold exclusively at Wool & Honey!

This is a fingerless mitt pattern with four cable-stitch pattern variations.  Three of the mitt patterns have cables that lean in opposite directions for the right and left hands, so they mirror each other.  One pattern has a symmetrical cable, so it is the same for both the right and the left hands.  Each mitt has welts at both the bottom and the top.  They are knitted at a tighter gauge than is typical for a worsted weight yarn, using a smaller needle.

Instructions are given specifically for working on double-pointed needles, but you could also knit these mitts on one long circular needle or on two circular needles.

Charted and written instructions are included in the pattern.

Stone Sock Fibers patterns come to us by the lovely local Amy Tyler of Lake Ann, MI.

We recommend knitting these mitts with Malabrigo Worsted--one skein will make two pair!

Be Sweet Ballet Pink
I really can't get over these monster patterns.  I've knit both a Penelope and Daphne and Delilah duo and I can speak from experience that these patterns are simple, quick-to-knit and well-written.

They make fabulous gifts at baby showers; although I'm always an advocate for sweet little sweaters, hats and booties, a baby (or a toddler!) can cuddle with a monster for years to come.  Even my sisters, who are 28, are fighting over who gets to take home the Wool & Honey shop samples.  (They're both wrong--I'm keeping them!)

Be adventurous in your color choices when knitting these monsters--they're supposed to be fun!  Pair up Sunshine with Orange, Lime with Pacific Blue, Pink with Cloud Blue....the options are endless.

Dangercrafts patterns are selling faster than I can order them!   There's a new shipment on its way--orders placed this weekend will ship on 8/31, if not sooner.  Thanks for your patience!
