Hello, friends!

Happy Monday to you!

(Lake Leelanau at Hohnke Beach, May 13th)

We're getting ready for our annual Memorial Day weekend celebration here at Wool & Honey--this year is our 12th in business and marks my six year anniversary!  Hard to believe.  And just like all celebrations (big or small,) we're celebrating with friends, treats and some very special yarn.  We'll be having a trunk show on Friday, May 25th from 5-9 pm and Saturday, May 26th from 10-12 pm where you'll get to meet Jill June, the woman behind the beautiful Studio June yarn, handdyed in Kalamazoo.  We're so thrilled to include Jill in our annual celebration!

Spring is such an exciting time at the shop! New yarns, gifts and kits are trickling in every week--to prepare for Northern Michigan's busy summer season.  Some of these treats will be making it to the website, but some of them are so unique that they won't.  (It's too hard to manage some of this special inventory both online and in the retail shop.)  Which means, of course, that you need to stop in to see these lovelies in person!  You can also check out the blog for more periodic updates--it's a good way to see what we're up to on a day-to-day basis.

Have any ideas, suggestions or favorites you'd like to see in the shop this summer?  We're still doing lots of planning, so there's room for more.  Drop us a line at woolandhoney@gmail.com--we'll be happy to take your suggestion under consideration.

We've done a bit of tidying up on the website (although we've got plenty more to do!) and we've finally categorized all of our Wool & Honey patterns (including the freebies!) in one, easy-to-find spot on the siteNo more rifling through past newsletters to find something you thought you wanted to knit ("Was that from The 12 Knits of 2009 or 2010?")--all of our exclusive designs are right here.  (But if you'd like a link to our entire newsletter archive, you can find that here!)

The weather is gorgeous out there--it's definitely looking like summer.  We're so glad it's here!

Studio June Yarn is a one-woman handpainted yarn company based in Kalamazoo.  Jill June is the artist behind the magic and her yarns range from lace to fingering to worsted weight in a rainbow of hues.  Whether it's a lace weight yarn in tone-on-tone shades of light lavender (think silk and alpaca) or a variegated sock yarn in a sturdy-yet-sumptuous cashmere blend, Jill's color palette includes something for every knitter.  Studio June yarn is available only from a handful of yarn shops around the country--this is a one-of-a-kind event.

Join us:

World Wide Knit (and Crochet!) in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company.  Knitting is such a solitary act that it's easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there.  Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits.  This a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for you and people like you.  Who knows you might even bump into your neighbor!

WWKiP Day is about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way.  In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, on WWKiP Day they come together in one place, making them hard to miss.

2005 there were about 25 local events around the world.  In 2006 there were about 70 local events.  2007 there were almost 200.  In 2008 there were 800 events, and in 2009 there were 751.

Over the years there have been local events in Australia, China, England, Finland, France, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, United States and many more countries.
