Hello, friends!

Happy Monday to you!   This weekend was spent catching up with old friends and enjoying some of the finer things in life in Northern Michigan, like morel hunting, picnics in the backyard, late nights at Art's Tavern....my only complaint that it was just too dang short!

(Curt and I heading out to our favorite picnic spot behind our house on Friday night.)

This special is limited to the website ONLY.  But what if you're local and want to pick up your purchase to save on shipping?  You can do that!  While you're perusing the site, you'll see that you can choose "Local Pickup" or "Ship, Please!" from the shipping options when adding an item to your cart.

Spring is such an exciting time at the shop! New yarns, gifts and kits are trickling in every week--to prepare for Northern Michigan's busy summer season.  Some of these treats will be making it to the website, but some of them are so unique that they won't.  (It's too hard to manage some of this special inventory both online and in the retail shop.)  Which means, of course, that you need to stop in to see these lovelies in person!  You can also check out the blog for more periodic updates--it's a good way to see what we're up to on a day-to-day basis.

Have any ideas, suggestions or favorites you'd like to see in the shop this summer?  We're still doing lots of planning, so there's room for more.  Drop us a line at woolandhoney@gmail.com--we'll be happy to take your suggestion under consideration.

I'm balancing my stitch time these days between a baby sweater, two pairs of socks, a crewel work sampler I've been trying to finish for a month and a cross stitch sampler I can't WAIT to start.  Spring always seems to jump start the creative juices for me--hope you're feeling some of the same.  If you're in a bit of a rut, stop by the shop any time....I'll be happy to offer up a suggestion or two!

This project is for the tiniest of toes. One of my favorite things to do (when I can!) is knit for the new babies in my life--nieces, nephews and all my high school and college friends that are starting families. This pattern is one that I created to showcase the exquisite, one-of-a-kind sock yarns that are available everywhere, and this one highlights one of my newest favorites at the shop, Canopy Fingering. Knit a pair of these for your niece's baby shower and you'll be the highlight of the party.

Interested in just the PDF of the booties pattern? Find it here.

These booties would make a perfect gift for a new mom on Mother's Day or any of those upcoming baby showers.

World Wide Knit (and Crochet!) in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company.  Knitting is such a solitary act that it's easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there.  Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits.  This a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for you and people like you.  Who knows you might even bump into your neighbor!

WWKiP Day is about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way.  In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, on WWKiP Day they come together in one place, making them hard to miss.

2005 there were about 25 local events around the world.  In 2006 there were about 70 local events.  2007 there were almost 200.  In 2008 there were 800 events, and in 2009 there were 751.

Over the years there have been local events in Australia, China, England, Finland, France, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, United States and many more countries.
