Hello, friends!
Monday already? It seems as though these spring weeks are just flying by. The signs are all here--the trillium are out in their glory, plenty of locals have had morel mushroom sightings and the Village Cheese Shanty is open for business. Sooner than later, the weather will catch up! * * * * * SALE OF THE WEEK
Starting immediately, we'll be featuring one extra-special yarn, kit, gift or tool on sale on the website--EVERY week. The special will run from Monday-Sunday that's will either be a special that's 10 to 30% OFF regular prices, a buy-one-get-one special and or even a freebie! This special is limited to the website ONLY. But what if you're local and want to pick up your purchase to save on shipping? You can do that! While you're perusing the site, you'll see that you can choose "Local Pickup" or "Ship, Please!" from the shipping options when adding an item to your cart. Read more about this week's special below....* * * * * Spring is such an exciting time at the shop! New yarns, gifts and kits are trickling in every week--to prepare for Northern Michigan's busy summer season. Some of these treats will be making it to the website, but some of them are so unique that they won't. (It's too hard to manage some of this special inventory both online and in the retail shop.) Which means, of course, that you need to stop in to see these lovelies in person! You can also check out the blog for more periodic updates--it's a good way to see what we're up to on a day-to-day basis. Have any ideas, suggestions or favorites you'd like to see in the shop this summer? We're still doing lots of planning, so there's room for more. Drop us a line at woolandhoney@gmail.com--we'll be happy to take your suggestion under consideration. * * * * * Hope you're finding a bit of time for knitting, spinning and other fibery pursuits. Spring can be a very busy time for everyone--soccer, end-of-school wrap-ups, award ceremonies, gardening.... Here's a friendly reminder to keep yourself in mind during the chaos. A bit of stitching at the end of the day--or even while you sip your morning coffee in the morning--does wonders for mental clarity. I know I couldn't make it without a project or two! Melissa

Mastering Gauge: It's Not Nearly As Hard As You Think
Saturday, May 5th
12:00-1:00 pm
This Saturday!
Somewhere, sometime in the land of knitting, gauge was given a bad name. Mastering gauge--or at the very least, understanding how to achieve it--is the tool that will take you from a shy, novice knitter to a well-equipped one. Gauge puts your mind at ease. Once you have done your background work, you can be assured a knitted piece will fit. One 1-hour session. Materials included. $15.00. To sign up for classes, register here or call us at (231) 228-2800. * Materials for the Baby Booties class are not included, but will be available to students at 15% OFF regular prices. |

Save the Date:
Saturday June 9th World Wide Knit and Crochet in Public Day Downtown Traverse City 9 am-9 pm We've been doing lots of planning for this fun day of knitting in public, including preparations for fellowship, impromptu lessons and a yarny art installation. Read more about WWKIP day below.
* * * * *
World Wide Knit (and Crochet!) in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company. Knitting is such a solitary act that it's easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there. Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits. This a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for you and people like you. Who knows you might even bump into your neighbor!
WWKiP Day is about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way. In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, on WWKiP Day they come together in one place, making them hard to miss.
2005 there were about 25 local events around the world. In 2006 there were about 70 local events. 2007 there were almost 200. In 2008 there were 800 events, and in 2009 there were 751.
Over the years there have been local events in Australia, China, England, Finland, France, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, United States and many more countries.
Visit the official WWKiP Day website here.
