Hello, friends!

Happy Monday!  Hope you had a wonderful weekend.  We're definitely seeing a spike in traffic--what a bustling weekend in the shop.  It's always so fun to catch up with customers we haven't seen in awhile and find out what they've been up to over the past year.  Customers are always so excited to see what's new--and we're happy to show and tell.  This weekend's highlights?  Some fabulous handpainted sock yarn from Dream In Color, new handspun from an indie vendor and of course, the dazzling rainbow of Canopy Fingering

What's been keeping your fingers flying lately, friends?

Spring is such an exciting time at the shop! New yarns, gifts and kits are trickling in every week--to prepare for Northern Michigan's busy summer season.  Some of these treats will be making it to the website, but some of them are so unique that they won't.  (It's too hard to manage some of this special inventory both online and in the retail shop.)  Which means, of course, that you need to stop in to see these lovelies in person!  You can also check out the blog for more periodic updates--it's a good way to see what we're up to on a day-to-day basis.

Have any ideas, suggestions or favorites you'd like to see in the shop this summer?  We're still doing lots of planning, so there's room for more.  Drop us a line at woolandhoney@gmail.com--we'll be happy to take your suggestion under consideration.

The temperatures are still a liiiiitle cool for our liking (low 50s all week), but to be honest, they're pretty average here in Cedar.  It's just that we're really in the mood for making sun tea in the morning, spending warm afternoons on the front porch and going to evening barbecues with friends.  We are so ready for summer!

The Knit Kit (Full Size)

* * * * *

Affectionately known as the Swiss Army Knife for knitters, the Knit Kit is a handy tool to store all of your knitting notions in one place.  The newest version is hot pink and includes a tape measure, row counter, thread cutter, double-ended crochet hook (one large and one small, for picking up dropped stitches), collapsible scissors, point protectors, stitch markers and needle gauge--all in one handy-dandy, TSA-approved, palm-sized case.  We know a few knitters that have more than one Knit Kit, which makes it helpful to organize multiple projects (ahem).

This tool would make a perfect gift for Mother's Day, any beginning knitter or a way to take advantage of a really good deal to buy a treat for yourself.

This Saturday!

finishing techniques

One of the most important aspects of knitting isn't the actual knitting itself--it's the sewing, seaming and wrestling that some cleverly call "finishing".  Knowing how to match up the proper techniques insures overall knitting success.  This session will put you at ease, leaving you to create pieces you're proud to call hand-knit.  These techniques are essential elements that belong in your toolbox and are crucial for knitting success!

One 2-hour session.  Materials included.  $25.00.

To sign up for this class, register here or call us at (231) 228-2800.

World Wide Knit and Crochet in Public Day
Downtown Traverse City
9 am-9 pm

World Wide Knit (and Crochet!) in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company.  Knitting is such a solitary act that it's easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there.  Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits.  This a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for you and people like you.  Who knows you might even bump into your neighbor!

WWKiP Day is about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way.  In some places there are many different knitting groups that never interact with each other, on WWKiP Day they come together in one place, making them hard to miss.

2005 there were about 25 local events around the world.  In 2006 there were about 70 local events.  2007 there were almost 200.  In 2008 there were 800 events, and in 2009 there were 751.

Over the years there have been local events in Australia, China, England, Finland, France, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, United States and many more countries.
