(Early) Spring!
Classes, Spring Break and Some New Treats! |

Hiya, knitters!
So two weekends ago, we were hit with 30 inches of wet, heavy snow that knocked out power in some areas for up to 100 hours. Yesterday I was sitting on my front porch, composing this email in 82 degree weather. Crazy Michigan weather--you just never have any idea of what to expect in mid-March!Spring is such a lovely time in Northern Michigan--and it's a perfect season for knitting lightweight projects like scarves and shawls. We've got so many ideas for spring-like accessories--be sure to check out our new and updated pattern page for some clever ideas. Need to brush up on your finishing techniques? Need a centerpiece for your Easter dinner table? Ready to tackle the ubiquitous sock? Check out our classes! We've restocked some of our most popular notions, including Lantern Moon sheep tape measures and the Knit Kit, which now comes in hot pink and includes a needle gauge. (I know I couldn't live without mine!)And for those of you who are online shopping, don't forget--all domestic orders over $75 ship FREE. Always.
Wooly Tip:
Now would be the time to wash your wool sweaters (and hats, mittens, scarves and cowls!) before putting them away for the winter. The reason? Despite popular belief, moths are attracted to our natural oils, food particles, sweat and everyday grime that's left behind after a season of wear, NOT yarn. Try using a bit of Eucalan, either Lavender or Unscented, to prep your wooly wardrobe for a season of storage. This week promises to bring more (unusually) amazing weather--I'm looking forward to spending some time in the afternoons knitting on the front step. Join me!

Closed For Spring Break
Closed For Spring Break(Gone Knittin'!)
We're taking a short mid-week break during the week of March 26th, which is spring break for all Northern Michigan school districts (including TBAISD, TCAPS, and GTACS).
Wool & Honey will be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 26th, 27th and 28th, and will reopen with our normal Spring Hours at 11 am on Thursday, March 29th.
We're looking forward to getting away before the busy season ahead--we need a few days to recharge, refuel, reconnect and get reenergized!

Quite possibly one of the cutest baby hat kits we've ever seen! The kit includes: 100% mercerized cotton yarn in five colors, as well as the pattern for infant & child sizes. A project well-suited for an advanced beginner, you should know how to knit, purl, knit in the round, increase and decrease. We've had this kit in the shop before, but in addition to the Eggplant color (shown above), we've added Tulip and Bluebell colorways.

You know it's spring in Northern Michigan when we bring back
Wolle's Yarn Creations is a 4-ply fingering weight yarn that gradually changes colors to create a stunning effect. This self-striping yarn is especially well-suited for small, triangular shawlettes. We are proud to be one of only a handful of yarn shops in the U.S. to carry this unique cotton yarn from Virginia.
One skein of Wolles Yarn Creations will make our popular shop sample, a FREE shawl pattern available here.

Classes: Early Spring 2012
|
Saturday, March 24th12-2 p.m.One of the most important aspects of knitting isn't the actual knitting--it's the sewing, seaming & wrestling that some cleverly call "finishing". Knowing how to match up the proper techniques insures overall knitting success. This session will put you at ease, leaving you to create pieces you're proud to call hand-knit. We hold this class at least once a month, year-round; these techniques are essential for knitting success!

Just in time for Easter, these needle-felted eggs would make a darling centerpiece for your dinner table. Needle felting is a fast and fun way to add dimension and artistry to your fiber repertoire. This class would also be great for kids 8 and up.

Three Saturdays: March 31st, April 7th & 14th 3-5 p.m.
Ever wonder why this project is so popular with knitters? They're fun, they're portable, they're relatively inexpensive....in our minds, they might be considered the perfect knitting project. Once you've braved socks, there's nothing you can't knit. (And yup, we're talking about double-pointed needles here!) Coming in May: "Learn to Knit Socks with the Magic Loop".
