Hello, friends!

Week Seven.  How are you doing?  Keeping up with your gift list?  I hope you are--and at the same time taking a bit of time to knit for yourself!

While it's not exactly a small project, this week's kit is fun, festive and cheerful--a Christmas stocking.  There's plenty of leg length to add embellishments, embroider a few snowflakes or add a name with charted instructions or duplicate stitch; this stocking is a blank canvas to improve upon with your creativity.  Or leave it unadorned as I've done here and celebrate your inner Scandihoovian!  Read on below...

Tonight's the night!  This weekend, November 11th & 12th, we'll be again welcoming one of our favorite Michigan dyers, The Plucky Knitter!

Plucky Logo

Sarah's beautiful yarns are subtle and tonal, perfect for showing off cables and lace, or even acres of stockinette.  The yarn bases are comprised of both sturdy workhorse yarns and exquisite blends, typically including merinosilkcashmere, seacell--her following is so fanatical that a typical update will wipe out an entire Etsy shop within minutes!  A trunk show is the only place to see and fondle Plucky yarns all together in one place--we only have these shows every so often, you don't want to miss it!

Unfortunately, Sarah won't be joining us tonight, but she's sending a great big box of yarn in her stead.  Get your first glimpse (and the first chance to purchase a bit of this rare yarn)  tonight, November 11th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
or
tomorrow, Saturday, November 12th from 9 am to 6 pm

(or while the yarn lasts!)

Thanksgiving weekend has always been a special weekend at the shop and this year is no different.  Over the past several years, we've been rebuilding & retooling our inventory at Wool & Honey to reflect the unique, local fiber talent that abounds in Northern Michigan.

Holidays are all about thoughtful, unique gifts.  And what's more unique than a gift made in Northern Michigan--or made from yarn spun/dyed/handpainted in Northern Michigan?  All day Friday, November 25th & Saturday November 26th, we'll be showcasing some of our favorite local talent with an expansive trunk show.  Then on Saturday evening from 6-9, there'll be an artists reception, where you'll get to meet some of the women behind the fiber.  Wine, snacks, chocolate and even local music will be served-- singer/songwriter Kat Eldred will be here with her guitar to make the evening even more festive.  We hope you'll join us in giving thanks for our local artists!

Are you a local fiber artist interested in participating in our Thanksgiving trunk show?  Email us at woolandhoney AT gmail DOT com or call (231) 228-2800 for more information.

At Wool & Honey, we believe that the best way to celebrate the holidays is with a handcrafted gift.

Something special--a little slip of a silk scarf, a pair of fuzzy, wooly mitts, a handknit ornament--that with a little time, a little money and a little foresight could become the most treasured gift you give all year.

Every Friday, you'll receive an email revealing a special pattern we've written exclusively for the shop--one that can easily be tackled within the course of a week.  (With a little effort, of course--these projects don't knit themselves!)

These patterns are super simple, even for beginner knitters.  We make it that way because we realize that in addition to your knitting, there's a good chance you've got a few other things to tend to between now and the holidays.  (Ahem!)

Knitting should be fun, not work.  And certainly not stressful.  Most of these projects are One-Skein Wonders--a pretty fantastic way to see light at the end of the knitting tunnel, even when you're elbow-deep in cookie dough.

With 12 full weeks ahead of us, if you pace yourself and try your best to keep up, you'll have a nice collection of gifts come December 25th.

Good luck, friends!

This year, just like last year, there are several ways to knit for everyone on your list.  The Twelve Knits are being sold as kits--kits complete with yarn, pattern and a Wool & Honey project bag, with the option of adding needles if you need them.  You can purchase one for delivery right to your doorstep or you can reserve one for pick-up at the shop.
And for those of you who've got a mountain of stash to knit through, we're offering a pattern-only option as well.  Within 24 hours of your purchase, your pattern will be e-mailed to you in an easy-to-read PDF format that you can save and print as many times as you'd like.

This year, we're thrilled to be selling The Twelve Knits on our shiny new website,

 www.woolandhoney.com.

Take a peek around while you're shopping--there's a pretty good chance you'll find something you like!

The Twelve Knits of Christmas:
Week Seven

God Jul Stocking

Quirky, whimsical and altogether classic, sometimes an over sized holiday sock says, "Merry Christmas" just right.  Our version features a wide ribbed cuff, an extra long leg and a thick, supportive foot--one that will easily accomodate that traditional Christmas orange.  Knit in a natural sheep's wool yarn in milky white, this classic style would look wonderful on any mantle.  With two strands of bulky weight yarn held together, this stocking--large as it is--knits up very quickly on US 13 needles.

God Jul means "Merry Christmas" in both Swedish and Norwegian.

In other news, one of my good friends, talented blogger and web guru Ashlea Walter is hosting a contest on her blog--a giveaway for $50 gift certificate to our new online shop!  What would you do with a shopping spree at Wool & Honey?  Check out her super cute site--and the contest--here.  Good luck!

We saw our first snowfall yesterday in Northern Michigan.  Just a little dusting and none of it stayed, but it certainly makes holiday preparation a little more real.  And exciting.  I've got several fun holiday gift projects coming in the next few weeks, many of which will fall outside the realm of the Twelve Knits--including lots of gifts and gadgets for you, knitters!  (Maybe it's time to let Santa know what you'd like this year.  If he needs help, send him this way--I've got plenty of ideas!)
