Hello, friends!
We started 2010 as Inish Knits and now we're starting 2011 as a "new" shop, Wool & Honey, with new goals, new yarns, new customers and a sense of excitement for the New Year. Thank you so much for being part of it all!
Our 11th year in Cedar is looking to be the best one yet--the one in which we really go for it. Look for online shopping (what's that saying about eating an elephant, bite by bite?!?), more exclusive yarns, indie dyers and designers and a line of sweet delights, including goat's milk soap, kits for all levels and the reason for the kitschy knitted cozy--tea!
Thank you, too, for your patience. Reinventing (and improving upon!) a yarn shop is no small task and you've all been rather gracious about the changes. Look for more in the months to come...it's only getting better!
Best,
Melissa

Open Knitting: Saturday Stitch Every Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m.
We know for most people, leaving the house in the dark and cold on a weeknight for knitting doesn't sound like much fun. The roads can be iffy, too--all the way through April. So we're trying out something new this winter: we're taking a "Winter Break" from our Tuesday night sessions and beginning Saturday January 8th, we'll be enjoying our Open Knitting sessions on Saturday mornings from 9-11 a.m. We'll have coffee and tea on to coax you out of bed and we might just have sweet treats, too. (Okay, we're sure of it--there will be treats!)
Open Knitting, or as we'll be calling it "Saturday Stitch", might just be the thing to jump start your knitting this winter. There's no agenda here, other than for a group of knitters, crocheters and spinners to get to know each other while enjoying their favorite type of craft.
There are a few ground rules, though, that we'd like to make sure you're abreast of as we start a new year.
-Open Knitting is not a club. This isn't a members-only kind of gathering: ANYONE and EVERYONE is welcome. (And yes, that includes kids!) We do our best to make everyone feel welcome, whether you're a beginning knitter or you've got 48 years of stitching under your belt.
-Open Knitting is not a class. Sure, there are lots of people here to share advice and offer help when you're in a bind, but please be mindful of those who come to enjoy themselves. If you need help with an extra sticky project, we'll be happy to schedule a private lesson for one-on-one intensive instruction.
-Open Knitting--whether it's a late night mid-week or an early Saturday morning--is made possible by customers like you. Thank you for supporting your Local Yarn Shop.
We'll resume our weeknight Open Knitting in May.

Classes: January 2011
This winter, we plan on enjoying ourselves--by learning even more about knitting, of course! Every month, our classes will focus on a particular skill set; in January, it's cables; in February, the theme is colorwork (Fair Isle, intarsia and two-color knitting); and in March, as the weather is about to change, lace. We'll also be offering some of our perennial favorites, too, throughout the months, including Socks, Finishing Techniques, Magic Loop Socks (Feb), Felted Mittens (Feb) and others. Hope you are up for a challenge!
Knitting 101
Saturday, January 15th
12-2 p.m.
If you've never picked up needles before, this is the class for you. In Knitting 101, we'll learn to cast on, knit and bind off--the basic foundation for starting your first project. When you're ready for the next level, be sure to sign up for Knitting 201, which we'll be holding in early February.
One 2-hour session. $15.00.
Materials included.*
Cable Without a Cable Needle Saturday, January 8th 12-1 p.m.
You guessed it--this class is a session devoted entirely to learning how to cable without a needle. A very clever technique, this class will help you master those twisted stitches with ease.
One 1-hour session. $10.00. Materials included.
Cabled Scarf Mondays, January 10th & 17th 2-4 p.m.

The meandering cables on this chunky scarf are the perfect way to learn to cable for the first time. Debunk the myth that cables are difficult--sign up for this class to find out how fun they really are!
Two 2-hour sessions. $30.00.
Materials not included.*
Socks! Wednesdays, January 12th, 19th & 26th 6-8 p.m.
Ever wonder why this project is so popular with knitters? They're fun, they're portable, they're relatively inexpensive....in our minds, they might be considered the perfect knitting project. Once you've braved socks, there's nothing you can't knit. (And yup, we're talking about double-pointed needles here!) Coming in February: "Learn to Knit Socks with the Magic Loop".
Three 2-hour sessions, $45.00. Materials not included.*
BFF Socks by Cookie A. Fridays, January 14th, 21st & 28th 4-6 p.m.

Just a touch beyond the basic beginner's sock, this simple cabled sock is a great pattern to add to your sock repertoire.
Three 2-hour sessions. $45.00. Materials not included.*
Finishing Techniques Saturday, January 29th 12-2 p.m.
One of the most important aspects of knitting isn't the actual knitting--it's the sewing, seaming & wrestling that some cleverly call "finishing". Knowing how to match up the proper techniques insures overall knitting success. This session will put you at ease, leaving you to create pieces you're proud to call hand-knit. We'll be holding this class at least once a month, year-round; these techniques are essential for knitting success!
One 2-hour session. $20.00.
Materials included.

Events: Winter/Spring 2011
Sure, we love living Up North in the winter--it's a beautiful, snowy paradise. But we'll admit it--sometimes we get cabin fever, too! When things get grey and bleak, what better way to brighten up the winter with a knitting party? !? Read about two of our upcoming events below.
Socks: A Love Story
Saturday, February 12th
9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
An entire day devoted to the knitter's favorite small project--what could be better? We'll have a ton of new samples displayed, new patterns to choose from and two exciting new indie vendors to introduce that you won't find anywhere in Michigan! We'll be demonstrating different heels, toes and construction methods throughout the day, and we'll also have specials, door prizes and other surprises to share. If you're a sock fanatic, this is one event you won't want to miss!
April 2011
Okay, so this is just a teaser--no real details to reveal quite yet. Stay tuned for more information on a springy celebration in mid-April--we'll announce dates, times and other details next month.
(Hint: it has something to do with good food, sneaking a peak at brand-new spring yarn, new samples, kits, shop exclusives--and a milestone birthday!) |
