Welcome, Fall! September 2010
Greetings, yarnophiles!

Back to school, back to work....back to wool!  It's no secret that fall is my favorite time of year.  (I'm typing this while simultaneously scarfing down my first pumpkin doughnut of 2010!)  My handknit socks are ready for action, I've got a sudden urge to cast on for a new sweater and I've already worn three scarves this week!  The shop has been buzzing with activity--knitters from all over Michigan (and travelers beyond!) have had the same thoughts I have: it's knittin' time.

Fall 2010 is definitely a season of change.  We've extended our fall hours just a bit--an hour earlier every day--to be even more available during this busy season of wooly goodness.  (Mon-Sat, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. & Sun. 12-4 p.m.)

We've got tons of new yarns and patterns to inspire as you begin your fall projects--read a bit more below!

The most exciting bit of news is the fact that we're adding a shopping feature to our website!  We've been shooting for this goal for years and we're finally making it a reality to shop at Wool & Honey from home.  We'll keep you posted as to when we'll be launching the new site!

And what about you, dear knitters?  What are your wooly aspirations for the season ahead?  Mastering two-at-a-time socks?  Diving into your first sweater project?  Beginning a family tradition of a Handknit Holiday (wink, wink, Susan A.!)  Or, maybe you're taking some time for you--pampering yourself with a beautiful lace shawl or a pair of mittens made from a one-of-a-kind handspun?  We'll be offering a few classes at the end of the month (another newsletter to follow) to help you move on with confidence to the next big thing in your knitting life.

Hoping this fall weather has you craving a little knitting time--it's what we knitters look forward to all year!

Best,

Melissa

New Yarn!
The Very Best Part About Fall

One of my favorite things about being in a yarn shop all day is, well, the yarn.

You'll notice that we've been taking a turn for the indie, and that's no coincidence.  Along with the name change this summer, we've been improving the way we do things at Wool & Honey.  We're bringing in more specialty items.  More natural fibers.  More women-owned, Fair-Trade companies.  More exclusive product offerings to create the perfect yarn experience.  We hope you're enjoying the new changes as much as we are.  (And judging by the smiles on your faces when you walk in the door, we're pretty sure you are!)

Fehrenbach Farms
This farm-fresh handspun is grown and spun locally by Denise, just outside of Manistee.

Feza Yarns
We're trying out a wool-free novelty yarn (Alp Natural) that alternates between different fibers, including linen and silk, while keeping a monochromatic theme.

Malabrigo Yarn.
Super soft Merino yarn in a rainbow of rich, earthy tones.  We're currently stocking the Worsted Merino and the Malabrigo Sock, which is perfect for mini shawls, too!

Wolles Yarn Creations.
http://wollesyarncreations.blogspot.com
This handpainted 4-ply Color Changing Cotton has been the hottest selling yarn in the shop this summer.  And don't expect it to disappear as the temperature changes--this yarn is exactly the right weight to transition into cooler weather.

And coming soon...

A HUGE order from Alchemy Fiber Arts--including their Silk Purse & Silken Straw yarns (which have a cult-like following), as well as their brand-new yarn, kitten-soft Kosmos.

Silk project bags, the popular Sox Stix, Rosewood & Ebony notions and bringing back the supercute sheep tape measures in white, black and brown from Lantern Moon.

Lanaknits AllHemp6 in all 21 colors---great for holiday washcloths and market bags!

spinning & felting fibers from Michigan-made Yarn Hollow

spinning & felting fibers from Frabjous Fibers

New Styles for Fall

Along with our desire to bring you the most unique yarns and fibers from across the globe, we're constantly searching for fresh, coordinating designs that set your knitting apart from the crowd.  Some of the designers we're proud to have here at Wool & Honey:

Cosmicpluto.
The most popular pattern at the shop so far this month is Laura Chau's (the brains behind Cosmicpluto) Just Enough Ruffles Scarf--just the thing for holiday gifts!

Imaginknit.
Featuring a beautiful 4-button wrap with a twist...a giant cable across the back.

Westknits.
Some of the most unique shawlette patterns we've seen, including DaybreakFlamboyan and Herbivore.  We've also pre-ordered several copies of Stephen's first book, set for release in October.

Ysolda Teague.
Several fresh and feminine designs, including Ravelry's most popular pattern, Ishbel.

And coming soon...

Alchemy.
Beautiful one-to-two-skein projects for their equally exquisite offerinsgs.

Chic Knits.
18 of Bonne Marie's classic designs--our delivery should arrive any day!  (And a Great Lakes company--based in Chicago!)

The Shetland Trader.
Beautiful shawls and sweaters--more fall wool goods!

...and several more surprises to come!
