Classes!June 2010
Greetings, knitfolk!

Thank you so much to everyone who sent their well-wishes over the weekend--your sweet emails, flowers and bottles of wine (and honey!) were so appreciated.  Memorial Day Weekend 2010 was certainly the best weekend I've ever had here at the shop.  Friends stopped by for hugs, to cuddle new yarn and to gawk at the beautiful new facelift the shop received last week.  A truly fabulous weekend indeed.  Wool and Honey logo

As we celebrate this first part of summer (longer days filled with sun! outdoor dining at all our favorite restaurants!  no more long underwear!), keep in mind that knitting isn't just for cold weather.  While sure, winter is probably the best time of year to work on that cabled alpaca afghan, smaller projects are just the right size for tossing into a beach bag or pulling out at night while sitting around the campfire.  (Socks, anyone?)

Summertime is also a great time of year to get a fresh perspective on your knitting.  How about trying something new?  Never knit baby booties before?  Super simple, but they always get the highest marks at baby showers.  Not comfortable with your ho-hum finishing techniques?  Our one-session class is a great way to soothe your nerves, giving you the confidence required to move onto that bigger project come fall.  Classes fill up quickly--call us at (231) 228-2800 to reserve your spot.  You'll be glad you did.

I'm looking forward to challenging myself over the next month or so, too.  My goals?  A pair of toe-up socks, writing up a few new shop patterns and getting back to my old friend, Chauncey, my poor, neglected spinning wheel.  My favorite flowers--peonies, poppies and lupine--are in bloom, the local wineries are almost all open and I think I'll be heading out to the TC farmer's market early this Saturday morning.  June is busting out all over!  Hope you're loving it as much as I am.

Best,

Melissa

Knitted Pillows
Wednesdays, June 16th & 23rd: 12-2 p.m.
Sure, you've got baskets of yarn around the house to serve as "dcor", but why not try knitting your own home decorating accents?  Basically two flat pieces with buttonholes, pillows are great projects for beginners and a pair makes a heartfelt wedding gift for a special couple.  (We're happy to convert patterns to incorporate circular knitting for those who prefer not to seam.)

Two 2-hour sessions. $30.00, plus materials.

Lacy Washcloths
Fridays, June 18th & 25th: 2-4 p.m.
Knit a trio of washcloths to give as a housewarming, bridal or graduation gift.  These pretty, lacy washcloths use soft cotton and are appropriate for beginning to intermediate knitters.

Two 2-hour sessions. $30.00, plus materials.

Handcrafted, Not Homemade-
It's All in the Details

Monday, June 14th: 6-8 p.m.
One of the most important aspects of knitting isn't the actual knitting-it's the sewing, seaming & wrestling that some cleverly call "finishing".  Knowing how to match up the proper techniques insures overall knitting success.  These two sessions will put you at ease, leaving you to create pieces you're proud to call hand-knit.

One 2-hour session.  $25.00. Materials provided.

Socks!
Sundays, June 6th, 13th & 20th: 2-4 p.m.
Ever wonder why it is this project is so popular with knitters these days?  They're fun, they're portable, they're relatively inexpensive....in our minds, they're the perfect knitting project.  Once you've braved socks, there's nothing you can't knit!  (And yes, we're talking about double-pointed needles here!)
Three 2-hour sessions.  $45.00, plus materials.
