The 12 Knits of Christmas:
Week Three

Hiya, knitters!

Hanging in there?  I hope so!  To reward your efforts, there's a little break this time around.  Week three's project is so easy, you could practically finish it in your sleep.  Knit back and forth on straight needles, all you need to know how to do is knit and purl.  Which means that this might be the gift that keeps on giving--one for Grandma, one for Teacher, one for the Postmaster....you get the idea.  The pattern might be plain Jane, but knit in a sumptuous silk yarn, this handmade gift would please even a princess.

If you've done this before, scroll down to reveal the pattern and yarn of the week.  If you're new to the program, here's the deal:  Every Thursday afternoon (or into the evening!), you'll receive a FREE pattern--either an Inish Knits original creation or from another clever online crafter--that we've deemed "do-able" within the course of a week.

These patterns are super simple, and there's a reason.  You've got kids.  Sports.  Dogs.  You're working 40-plus hours a week.  We want you to feel like you can actually get something done during these crazy weeks leading up to the holidays.  (Sorry--there's nothing we can do about the 17 fruitcakes you've got on the list!)

And that's not all.  The yarn that's featured in each week's project is available at 20% OFF for the entire week*, so the projects are as easy on your wallet as they are on your brain.  With 12 full weeks ahead of us, if you try your best to keep up, you'll have a nice collection of gifts come December 25th.

Feel free, too, to pick and choose patterns that you like--you may find you like some more than others.  Or, stick with one pattern and knit 12 of those.  No rules here--just fun.  It's yarn, remember?

There are so many winter holidays each year, it's hard to pick just one to celebrate.  (I've always been a Christmas gal, myself.)  Regardless of the holiday traditions you observe, these mitts would delight any recipient.   They're warm, practical and the yarn is so luscious, no one will suspect how simple they are to knit.  The trick is figuring out how to keep a pair for yourself!

Yarn: Louisa Harding Grace Hand-dyed  (50% wool/50% silk), 50 g-110 yds.  One skein.

Gauge: 5 ½ sts per inch on US 6 needle.  (Adjust needle if necessary to obtain gauge.)

Pattern

Cast on 38 sts.

Row 1: *K2, P2; repeat from * across row, ending with K2.

Row 2: *P2, K2; repeat from * across row, ending with P2.

Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until piece measures 7 inches.  Bind off all sts knitwise.

Fold piece in half lengthwise.  Sew two seams along the side edge, leaving room for a thumb hole.  One should be 3 1/2 inches long, sewn from the cast on row toward the middle of the mitt.  The second should be 2 1/2 inches long, sewn from the bind off row toward the middle of the mitt.  Weave in all ends.  Enjoy!

Another tip for those of you who've got archaic printers like mine, or eyes that have a hard time seeing small print:  instead of printing this email as you see it, try copying and pasting the text into a Microsoft Word document.  That way, you can enlarge the font and change the color as you see fit.  Life made easier.

The fall colors are in full swing and the shop has been BUSY!  It seems as soon as the weather takes a turn, everyone's in the mood to knit.  We've got plenty more ideas around the shop--stop by to see what's percolating!  I'll be the one knitting!

Best,

Melissa
