  Early June 2009
Hiya, fiber friends!

While I'm still waiting to pull my peep-toe pumps out of the closet (okay, my Birkenstocks), it's definitely summer out there.  The Cheese Shanty is open, the docks are out on Lake Leelanau and every day at the shop brings at least one familiar face through the door.  I hope you all know how much I enjoy catching up with each and every one of you after a winter away; I love hearing about your families, your jobs, your retirement (go Ada!), and of course, your knitting projects.  It seems an especially busy time of year, with weddings, graduation parties and end-of-the-year wrap-ups, but I hope you'll pop in a few times throughout the summer to say "hi" and to see all the great changes at Inish Knits.

I'll be featuring lots of new projects, products, classes and events over the next few weeks....stay tuned!
Smokin' Hot at Inish Knits:
The Top 10 Things We Can't Keep On The Shelves
Handspun Yarn
1. Spun Honey handspun yarn.  These yarns, spun exclusively for Inish Knits by Melissa, are sold in 4 oz. skeins ranging from sport weight to super bulky.  These yarns are incredibly unique--an ideal gift for an out-of-town knitter (or a little indulgence for you!)
2. Noro Silk Garden Sock.  A little silk, a little mohair, a little luxury....this yarn knits up into lovely summer shawls, as well as the ubiquitous pair of socks.
3. Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino.  We've got 28 colors of this modern day classic.  Think booties, hats and heirloom sweaters.
4. Cascade Eco Wool.  We're currently stocking 12 shades of natural sheep's wool--from creamy white to coal black and every shade in between.  These huge (and crazy affordable!) hanks still smell like sheepy goodness.
5. Funky, chunky jewelry from A. Designs.  Fresh, modern colors and semiprecious stones create beautiful baubles from local artisan, Andrea Henry.
6. Summer pattern booklets from Debbie Bliss.  "Summer" and "Eco Cotton" feature Debbie's summer yarns--Pure Cotton, Eco Cotton and Prima.
7. Lavender sachets.  Perfect for tucking into your stash or a drawer full of "unmentionables", lavender is a delightful treat for non-knitters, too!
8.  Louis Harding Merletto.  Need a bit of shine in your life?  This linen-viscose blend is perfect for summery shells and slinky scarves.  (We've got a beautiful sample knit up in the shop--the popular Lace Ribbon Scarf from Knitty.)
9. Noro Taiyo.  Cotton Noro?  Yup.  And it's fabulous.
10. Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool.  We've got this season's eight new colors, plus a huge range of tweedy favorites that make this yarn very popular for transitional, year-round wear.
Ravelry: The Knitter's Little Helper
Ravelry Button
Ravelry is a social networking website that allows knitters, crocheters, spinners and weavers around the world to organize and share projects and ideas (Wikipedia).  For those of you who haven't heard of the best thing to happen to knitters since circular needles, I urge you to check it out.  I know, I know--who needs one more online diversion?  But from experience I can tell you that this particular tool is too fabulous to miss.  You can organize your needle collection, download thousands of free patterns, sell or trade from your stash and make new knitting friends within your community and beyond.  And best of all?  It's free. Sign up today at http://www.ravelry.com/.

For those of you who have been Ravelry users for awhile, you'll be happy to know there is now a Ravelry group for Inish Knits!  Everyone is welcome--it's a great way for townies, tourists and travelers alike to keep in touch and talk shop.  Just click on the "Groups" tab and type "Friends of Inish Knits" into your browser and there we are!  Please join us!
Here's wishing that all of you are enjoying your summer so far.  The season is too short--hope that means you're taking advantage of summer's best: lazy afternoon naps, curling up with a trashy novel and the occasional ice cream sundae (and hey--if a daily sweet treat is more your style, I tip my cone to you!)

Cotton
Yarns
(including cotton blends)
Yup.  You read it right.  And with the finest selection of cotton yarns in Northern Michigan, this is quite the deal.  Pima cotton, organic cotton, fair trade cotton, mercerized cotton--if it's spun with cotton, we've got it!   Cotton is soft on the skin, making it perfect for baby garments and those with wool allergies.  Durable and washable, cotton is a natural choice for blankets and dishcloths (which make fabulous summer wedding gifts!)  There's still plenty of time for that summer cardigan and we've got tons of patterns to choose from.  Don't wait--this coupon is good for one week only!
